Genesis 17:12

Genesis 17:12

And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

a. NLT: From generation to generation, every male child must be circumcised on the eighth day after his birth. This applies not only to members of your family but also to the servants born in your household and the foreign-born servants whom you have purchased.

b. NIV: For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring.

c. YLT: 'And a son of eight days is circumcised by you; every male to your generations, born in the house, or bought with money from any son of a stranger, who is not of thy seed;

d. Amplified Bible:  He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male throughout your generations, whether born in [your] house or bought with [your] money from any foreigner not of your offspring.

e. Septuagint: And the child of eight days [old] shall be circumcised by you, every male throughout your generations, and [the servant] born in the house and he that is bought with money, of every son of a stranger, who is not of thy seed.

f. Stone Edition Chumash: At the age of eight days every male among you shall be circumcised, throughout your generations, he that is born in the household or purchased with money from any stranger who is not of your offspring.

1. “And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you…”

a. he that is eight [8083 * shmoneh] [Strong: apparently from 8082 through the idea of plumpness; a cardinal number, eight (as if a surplus above the "perfect" seven); also (as ordinal) eighth:--eight((-een, -eenth)), eighth.]

2. “…every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.”

a. every man child [2145 * zakar] [Strong: from 2142; properly, remembered, i.e. a male (of  man or animals, as being the most noteworthy sex):--X him, male, man(child, -kind).]

b. in your generations [1755 * dowr] [Strong: from 1752; properly, a revolution of time, i.e. an age or generation; also a dwelling:--age, X evermore, generation, (n-)ever, posterity.]

c. that is born [3211 * yaliyd] [Strong: from 3205; born:--((home-))born, child, son.]

f. with money [3701 * keceph] [Strong: from 3700; silver (from its pale color); by implication, money:--money, price, silver(-ling).]
