Hebrews 3:15

While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

a. NLT: Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts

as Israel did when they rebelled.”

b. NIV: As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

c. YLT: In its being said, 'To-day, if His voice ye may hear, ye may not harden your hearts, as in the provocation,'

d. Amplified Bible Classic: Then while it is [still] called Today, if you would hear His voice and when you hear it, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion [in the desert, when the people provoked and irritated and embittered God against them].

1. “While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice…”

a. c. Today [Strong: 4594 sḗmeron, say'-mer-on; neuter (as adverb) of a presumed compound of the article G3588 (t changed to s) and G2250; on the (i.e. this) day (or night current or just passed); generally, now (i.e. at present, hitherto):—this (to-)day.]

d. if [Strong: 1437 eán, eh-an'; from G1487 and G302; a conditional particle; in case that, provided, etc.; often used in connection with other particles to denote indefiniteness or uncertainty:—before, but, except, (and) if, (if) so, (what-, whither-)soever, though, when (-soever), whether (or), to whom, (who-)so(-ever).]

e. [you] will hear [Strong: 191 akoúō, ak-oo'-o; a primary verb; to hear (in various senses):—give (in the) audience (of), come (to the ears), (shall) hear(-er, -ken), be noised, be reported, understand.]

f. his [Strong: 846 autós, ow-tos'; from the particle αὖ aû (perhaps akin to the base of G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:—her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]

2. “...harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.”

a. harden [Strong: 4645 sklērýnō, sklay-roo'-no; from G4642; to indurate, i.e. (figuratively) render stubborn:—harden.]

e. as [Strong: 5613  hōs, hoce; probably adverb of comparative from G3739; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows):—about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, × with all speed.]
