Ezekiel 39:12

Ezekiel 39:12

And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.

a. ASV: And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying them, that they may cleanse the land.

b. YLT: And the house of Israel have buried them -- in order to cleanse the land -- seven months.

c. Classic Amplified: For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, that they may cleanse the land.

d. Septuagint: And the house of Israel shall bury them, that the land may be cleansed in the space of seven months.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: The House of Israel will bury them in in order to cleanse the land, for seven months. 

1. “And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them…”

a. [And] seven [Strong: 7651 sheba` sheh'-bah or (masculine) shibrah {shib-aw'}; from 7650; a primitive cardinal number; seven (as the sacred full one); also (adverbially) seven times; by implication, a week; by extension, an indefinite number:--(+ by) seven(-fold),-s, (-teen, -teenth), -th, times).]

b. months [Strong: 2320 chodesh kho'-desh from 2318; the new moon; by implication, a month:--month(-ly), new moon.]

c. [shall the] house [Strong: 1004 bayith bah'-yith probably from 1129 abbreviated; a house (in the greatest variation of applications, especially family, etc.):--court, daughter, door, + dungeon, family, + forth of, X great as would contain, hangings, home(born), (winter)house(-hold), inside(-ward), palace, place, + prison, + steward, + tablet, temple, web, + within(-out).]

d. [of] Israel [Strong: 3478 Yisra'el yis-raw-ale' from 8280 and 410; he will rule as God; Jisrael, a symbolical name of Jacob; also (typically) of his posterity: --Israel.]

e. [be] burying [of them] [Strong: 6912 qabar kaw-bar' a primitive root; to inter:--X in any wise, bury(-ier).]

1). Death brings uncleanness and there was a particular process to in the Mosaic Law to remove it. 

a). Numbers 19:11-16 He that toucheth the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days.
19:12 He shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean.
19:13 Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the Lord; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him.
19:14 This is the law, when a man dieth in a tent: all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days.
19:15 And every open vessel, which hath no covering bound upon it, is unclean.
19:16 And whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.

b. cleanse [Strong: 2891 taher taw-hare' a primitive root; properly, to be bright; i.e. (by implication) to be pure (physical sound, clear, unadulterated; Levitically, uncontaminated; morally, innocent or holy):--be (make, make self, pronounce) clean, cleanse (self), purge, purify(-ier, self).]

c. [the] land [Strong: 776 'erets eh'-rets from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):--X common, country, earth, field, ground, land, X natins, way, + wilderness, world.]

1). The land was cleansed after the dead were buried.
