Proverbs 39:16

Job 39:16

She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;

 a. ASV: She dealeth hardly with her young ones, as if they were not hers: Though her labor be in vain, she is without fear;

b. YLT: Her young ones it hath hardened without her, In vain is her labour without fear.

c. Classic Amplified: She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers; her labor is in vain because she has no sense of danger [for her unborn brood],

d. Septuagint: She has hardened [herself] against her young ones, as though [she bereaved] not herself: she labours in vain without fear.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: Becoming hardened against her offspring as if they were not hers, her toil being in vain, without fear.

2. “...as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;”

a. [as though they were] not [hers] [Strong: 3808 lo' lo or lowi {lo}; or loh (Deut. 3:11) {lo}; a primitive particle; not (the simple or abs. negation); by implication, no; often used with other particles (as follows):--X before, + or else, ere, + except, ig(-norant), much, less, nay, neither, never, no((-ne), -r, (-thing)), (X as though...,(can-), for) not (out of), of nought, otherwise, out of, + surely, + as truly as, + of a truth, + verily, for want, + whether, without.]

e. fear [Strong: 6343 pachad pakh'-ad from 6342; a (sudden) alarm (properly, the object feared, by implication, the feeling):--dread(-ful), fear, (thing) great (fear, -ly feared), terror.]

1). The reason the ostrich is a lousy mother is because God withheld the maternal wisdom that he did give to other species of creature. The next verse in the passage will reveal this truth. Creation was designed with the redemption of man in view.

a). Job 39:13-17 Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
39:14 Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
39:15 And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
39:16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not her's: her labour is in vain without fear;
39:17 Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

b). ! Peter 1:18-20  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
