(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)

1. “(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them…”

b. [when they] heard [Strong: 191 akoúō, ak-oo'-o; a primary verb; to hear (in various senses):—give (in the) audience (of), come (to the ears), (shall) hear(-er, -ken), be noised, be reported, understand.]


c. that [Strong: 3754 hóti, hot'-ee; neuter of G3748 as conjunction; demonstrative, that (sometimes redundant); causative, because:—as concerning that, as though, because (that), for (that), how (that), (in) that, though, why.]

d. [he] spake [Strong: 4377 prosphōnéō, pros-fo-neh'-o; from G4314 and G5455; to sound towards, i.e. address, exclaim, summon:—call unto, speak (un-)to.]

c. silence [Strong: 2271 hēsychía, hay-soo-khee'-ah; feminine of G2272; (as noun) stillness, i.e. desistance from bustle or language:—quietness, silence.]


d. and [Strong: 2532 kaí, kahee; apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:—and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]


e. [he] saith [Strong: 5346 phēmí, fay-mee'; properly, the same as the base of G5457 and G5316; to show or make known one's thoughts, i.e. speak or say:—affirm, say.]
