Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

1. “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none…”

a. Then [Strong: 1161. de deh a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]

b. Peter [Strong: 4074. Petros pet'-ros apparently a primary word; a (piece of) rock (larger than 3037); as a name, Petrus, an apostle:--Peter, rock.]

k. Christ Christ [Strong: 5547. Christos khris-tos' from 5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ.]

One afternoon while giving an address on “The Name of Jesus” a lawyer interrupted me, asking: “Do you mean to say that Jesus gave us the “Power of Attorney’ the Legal Right to use His Name?” I said to him, “Brother, you are a lawyer, and I am a laymay. Tell me--did Jesus give us the Power of Attorney?” He said, “If language means anything, then Jesus gave to the church the Power of Attorney.” Then I asked him, “What is the value of this Power of Attorney?” He answered, “It depends upon how much there is back of it, how much authority, how much power this Name represents.”

In one of the last times Jesus talked to the Apostles before He ascended back to heaven, He said, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” (Mark 16:15-18)
