so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
1. “For as the heavens are higher than
the earth…”
a.
heavens [8064 * shamayim] [Strong: dual of an unused singular shameh
{shaw-meh'}; from an unused root meaning to be lofty; the sky (as aloft; the
dual perhaps alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well as
to the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve):--air, X astrologer,
heaven(-s).]
b.
higher [1361 * gabahh] [Strong: a primitive root; to soar, i.e. be lofty;
figuratively, to be haughty:--exalt, be haughty, be (make) high(-er), lift up,
mount up, be proud, raise up great height, upward.]
c.
earth [776 * ‘erets] [Strong: from an unused root probably meaning to be firm;
the earth (at large, or partitively a land):--X common, country, earth, field,
ground, land, X natins, way, + wilderness, world.]
2. ‘…so
are my ways higher than your ways…”
a.
ways [1870 * derek] [Strongs: 1870 * derek] [Strong: from 1869; a road (as
trodden); figuratively, a course of life or mode of action, often
adverb:--along, away, because of, + by, conversation, custom, (east-)ward,
journey, manner, passenger, through, toward, (high-) (path-)way(-side),
whither(-soever).]
b.
higher [1361 * gabahh] [Strong: a primitive root; to soar, i.e. be lofty;
figuratively, to be haughty:--exalt, be haughty, be (make) high(-er), lift up,
mount up, be proud, raise up great height, upward.]
c.
ways [1870 * derek] See above.
d.
As stated in the previous verse the possessive pronouns “my” and “your” were
added perhaps by Moses or the earliest scribes to distinguish between your/our ways
and God’s ways. Regardless, they have been in the Hebrew text for thousands of
years. This verse reflects back to the preceding verses of seeking God, by the
wicked man forsaking his wicked “way” and the unrighteous man forsaking his
“thoughts”.
3. “…and
my thoughts than your thoughts.”
a.
thoughts [4284 * machashabah] [Strong: from 2803; a contrivance, i.e.
(concretely) a texture, machine, or (abstractly) intention, plan (whether bad,
a plot; or good, advice):--cunning (work), curious work, device(-sed),
imagination, invented, means, purpose, thought.]
