John 2:22
Who is a liar but he
that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
a. NLT: And who is a liar? Anyone
who says that Jesus is not the Christ. Anyone who denies the Father and the Son
is an antichrist.
b. NIV: Who is the liar? It is
whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the
antichrist—denying the Father and the Son.
c. Young’s Literal Translation: Who
is the liar, except he who is denying that Jesus is the Christ? this one is the
antichrist who is denying the Father and the Son;
d. Amplified Bible: Who is [such a]
liar as he who denies that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah)? He is the
antichrist (the antagonist of Christ), who [habitually] denies and refuses
to acknowledge the Father and the Son.
e. Worrell Translation: Who is the
liar, but he that denies that Jesus is
the Christ? This is the Anti-Christ, he denies the Father and the Son
1. Who is a liar but
he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ?
a. who [5101 * tis] [Strong: probably
emphatic of 5100; an interrogative pronoun, who, which or what (in direct or

1). [3756 * ou] [Strong: also
(before a vowel) ouk ook, and (before an aspirate) ouch ookh a primary
word; the absolute negative (compare 3361) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay,
neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy),
when, + without, + yet but.
i. the Christ [5547 * Christos]
[Strong: from 5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ.]
1). In the first part of this verse
it declares that anyone who denies Jesus is the Christ is a liar. Islam denies
that Jesus is the Christ. Therefore Islam is a liar.
a). Sura
5.72: Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely Allah, He is the Messiah,
son of Marium; and the Messiah said: O Children of Israel! serve Allah, my Lord
and your Lord. Surely whoever associates (others) with Allah, then Allah has
forbidden to him the garden, and his abode is the fire; and there shall be no
helpers for the unjust.
2. “…He is antichrist, that denieth the Father
and the Son.”
a. He [3778 * houtos] Strong: including
nominative masculine plural houtoi hoo'-toy, nominative feminine
singular haute how'-tay, and nominative feminine plural hautai how'-tahee from
the article 3588 and 846; the he (she or it), i.e. this or that (often with
article repeated):--he (it was that), hereof, it, she, such as, the same,
these, they, this (man, same, woman), which, who.
b. is [2076 * esti] [Strong: third
person singular present indicative of 1510; he (she or it) is; also (with
neuter plural) they are:--are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth,
X dure for a while, + follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must
needs, + profit, + remaineth, + wrestle.]
c. antichrist [500 * antichristos]
[Strong: from 473 and 5547; an opponent
of the Messiah:--antichrist.]
d. that denieth [720 * arneomai]
[Strong: perhaps from 1 (as a negative particle) and the middle voice of 4483;
to contradict, i.e. disavow, reject, abnegate:--deny, refuse.]
e. the father [3962 * pater]
[Strong: apparently a primary word; a "father" (literally or
figuratively, near or more remote):--father, parent.]
f. and [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently,
a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force;
and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition)
with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or,
so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
g. the Son [5207 * huios] [Strong: apparently
a primary word; a "son" (sometimes of animals), used very widely of
immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship:--child, foal, son.]
1). In the second part of this
verse it declares that anyone who denies the relationship of God the Father and
God the Son is an antichrist. Islam does that very thing.
a). Sura 4.171: O followers
of the Book! do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies)
against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium is only an
apostle of Allah and His Word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from
Him; believe therefore in Allah and His apostles, and say not, Three. Desist,
it is better for you; Allah is only one God; far be It from His glory that He
should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is
His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector.
2). Another witness concerning the
Father and the Son.
a). 1 John 5:9-12 If we receive the
witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God
which he hath testified of his Son.
5:10 He that believeth on the Son
of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a
liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son
5:11 And this is the record, that
God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
5:12 He that hath the Son hath
life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
