Mark 16:13

Mark 16:13

And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

a. NLT: They rushed back to tell the others, but no one believed them.

b. NIV: These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.

c. YLT: and they having gone, told to the rest; not even them did they believe.

d. Amplified Bible: And they returned [to Jerusalem] and told the others, but they did not believe them either.

e. Worrell Translation: and they, going away, told it to the rest; neither did they believe them.

1. “And they went and told it unto the residue…”

a. and they [2548 * kakeinos] [Strong: from 2532 and 1565; likewise that (or those):--and him (other, them), even he, him also, them (also), (and) they.]

b. went [565 * aperchomai] [Strong: from 575 and 2064; to go off (i.e. depart), aside (i.e. apart) or behind (i.e. follow), literally or figuratively:--come, depart, go (aside, away, back, out, ... ways), pass away, be past.]

c. and told [518 * apaggello] [Strong: from 575 and the base of 32; to announce:--bring word (again), declare, report, shew (again), tell.]

d. it unto the residue [3062 * loipoy] [Strong: masculine plural of a derivative of 3007; remaining ones:--other, which remain, remnant, residue, rest.]

2. “…neither believed they them.”

a. neither [3761 * oude] [Strong: from 3756 and 1161; not however, i.e. neither, nor, not even:--neither (indeed), never, no (more, nor, not), nor (yet), (also, even, then) not (even, so much as), + nothing, so much as.]

b. believed they [4100 * pisteuo] [Strong: from 4102; to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit; by implication, to entrust (especially one's spiritual well-being to Christ):--believe(-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with.]

c. them [1565 * ekeinos] [Strong: from 1563; that one (or (neuter) thing); often intensified by the article prefixed:--he, it, the other (same), selfsame, that (same, very), X their, X them, they, this, those.]

1). This is the second time witnesses came forth to declare the resurrection of Christ Jesus. Their unbelief the disciples exhibited violated the law, for the law required two witnesses for a matter to be established.

a). Deuteronomy 19:15  One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

b). Deuteronomy 17:6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

2). This doctrine carried over into the New Covenant, in Paul’s epistle to the Corinthians.

a). 2 Corinthians 13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

3). The unbelieving disciples were told first by Mary Magdalene, and secondly by the two disciples on the way to Emmaus, and still they did not believe.
