Mark 16:11

Mark 16:11

And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

a. NLT: But when she told them that Jesus was alive and she had seen him, they didn’t believe her.

b. NIV: When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.

c. YLT: and they, having heard that he is alive, and was seen by her, did not believe.

d. Amplified Bible: And when they heard that He was alive and that she had seen Him, they did not believe it.

e. Worrell Translation: And they, having heard that he was alive, and was seen by her, disbelieved.

1. “And they, when they had heard that he was alive…”

a. and they [2548 * kakeinos] [Strong: from 2532 and 1565; likewise that (or those):--and him (other, them), even he, him also, them (also), (and) they.]

b. when they had heard [191 * akouo] [Strong: a primary verb; to hear (in various senses):--give (in the) audience (of), come (to the ears), (shall) hear(-er, -ken), be noised, be reported, understand.]

c. that [3754 * hoti] [Strong: neuter of 3748 as conjunction; demonstrative, that (sometimes redundant); causative, because:--as concerning that, as though, because (that), for (that), how (that), (in) that, though, why.]

d. he was alive [2198 * zao] [Strong: a primary verb; to live (literally or figuratively):--life(-time), (a-)live(-ly), quick.]

2. “…and had been seen of her, believed not.”

a. and [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. had been seen [2300 * thauma] [Strong: apparently from a form of 2300; wonder (properly concrete; but by implication, abstract):--admiration.]

c. of [2300 * theaomai] [Strong: a prolonged form of a primary verb; to look closely at, i.e. (by implication) perceive (literally or figuratively); by extension to visit:--behold, look (upon), see.]

d. her [846 * autos] [Strong: from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]

e. believed not [569 * apisteo] [Strong: from 571; to be unbelieving, i.e. (transitively) disbelieve, or (by implication) disobey:--believe not.

1). When Jesus did appear to the apostles, Jesus strongly rebuked them for their unbelief.

a). Mark 16:14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

2). When Jesus appeared to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus he strongly rebuked them for their unbelief after they voiced their doubt to jesus not realizing it was he they were expressing their unbelief.

a). Luke 24:25-27 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
