Leviticus 6:12
And the fire upon the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be allowed to go out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning and lay the burnt offering in order upon it and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings.

1). The original fire was started by God himself.
a). Leviticus 9:24 And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted and fell on their faces.
2). No other source of fire was acceptable.
a). Numbers 3:4 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron thier father.
3). The fire represented God’s presence.
a). Deuteronomy 4:24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
4). When Solomon dedicated the Temple the original fire was again started by God.
a). 2 Chronicles 7:1-3 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house.
7:2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord's house.
7:3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
5). At the New Birth the fire is started by God. But we are to maintain the fire just as the priests did under the Old Covenant.
a). Matthew 3:11, 12 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
3:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

6). We need to begin again to walk in obedience to the light that has been revealed to us, the stirring will follow.
