Ecclesiastes 8:11

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

1. “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily…”

a. 2. “…therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”

1). A long and drawn out sentencing process feeds evil in the hearts of men and women. The reason there is a long drawn out sentencing process is given in Habakkuk.

a). Habakkuk 1:4  Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

b). Habakkuk 1:4 [NLT] The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.

c). Habakkuk 1:4 [NIV] Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.

2). The carrying out of a sentence for a crime, is the demonstration of justice and its fruit is a deterrent to further crime.

a). Deuteronomy 22:22   If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.  

3). A perfect example is the Jared Loughner case, who shot and killed 6 people and wounded 13 people. Fox news reports that the case could take years, even though,  “…dozens of people witnessed the shooting and surveillance cameras captured it on tape.” There is no deterrent in the sentencing.
