Romans 2:6
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
1. “Who will render to every man according to his deeds.”
a. Who [Strong: 3739 hos hos,
including feminine he hay, and neuter ho ho probably a primary word (or
perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative)
pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what,
which, who(-m, -se), etc.]
b. will render [Strong: 591 apodidomi
ap-od-eed'-o-mee from 575 and 1325; to give away, i.e. up, over, back,
etc. (in various applications):--deliver (again), give (again), (re-)pay(-ment
be made), perform, recompense, render, requite, restore, reward, sell, yield.]
c. [to] every man [Strong: 1538 hekastos
hek'-as-tos as if a superlative of hekas (afar); each or every:--any,
both, each (one), every (man, one, woman), particularly.]
d. according [Strong: 2596 kata
kat-ah' a primary particle; (prepositionally) down (in place or time),
in varied relations (according to the case (genitive, dative or accusative)
with which it is joined):--about, according as (to), after, against, (when they
were) X alone, among, and, X apart, (even, like) as (concerning, pertaining to
touching), X aside, at, before, beyond, by, to the charge of, (charita-)bly,
concerning, + covered, (dai-)ly, down, every, (+ far more) exceeding, X more
excellent, for, from ... to, godly, in(-asmuch, divers, every, -to, respect
of), ... by, after the manner of, + by any means, beyond (out of) measure, X
mightily, more, X natural, of (up-)on (X part), out (of every), over against,
(+ your) X own, + particularly, so, through(-oughout, -oughout every), thus,
(un-)to(-gether, -ward), X uttermost, where(-by), with. In composition it
retains many of these applications, and frequently denotes opposition,
distribution, or intensity.]
e. to his [Strong: 846 autos
ow-tos' from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through
the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used
(alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper
personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine)
own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she,
that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with),
they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]
f. deeds [Strong: 2041 ergon
er'-gon from a primary (but obsolete) ergo (to work); toil (as an effort
or occupation); by implication, an act:--deed, doing, labour, work.]
1). The passage Romans 2:1-11 is
referencing the individuals who respond to the grace of God (Romans 2:7, 10),
and those who reject the grace of God (Romans 2:8, 9). All will be judged
according to their deeds and as Romans 2:11 declares, “there is no respect of persons with God.”.
a). Revelation 20:11-13 And I saw a great white throne, and him that
sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was
found no place for them.
20:12 And I saw the dead, small
and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was
opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things
which were written in the books, according to their works.
20:13 And the sea gave up the dead
which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them:
and they were judged every man according to their works.
b). Colossians 3:22-25 Servants,
obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as
menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;
3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it
heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye
shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
3:25 But he that doeth wrong shall
receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
c). 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must
all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the
things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it
be good or bad.
