Romans 2:5
But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up
unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous
judgment of God;
1. “But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest
up unto thyself wrath…”
a. But [Strong: 1161 de deh
a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and,
but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]
b. after [Strong: 2596 kata
kat-ah' a primary particle; (prepositionally) down (in place or time),
in varied relations (according to the case (genitive, dative or accusative)
with which it is joined):--about, according as (to), after, against, (when they
were) X alone, among, and, X apart, (even, like) as (concerning, pertaining to
touching), X aside, at, before, beyond, by, to the charge of, (charita-)bly,

(+ your) X own, + particularly, so, through(-oughout, -oughout every), thus,
(un-)to(-gether, -ward), X uttermost, where(-by), with. In composition it
retains many of these applications, and frequently denotes opposition,
distribution, or intensity.]
c. ty [Strong: 4675 sou soo
genitive case of 4771; of thee, thy:--X home, thee, thine (own), thou, thy.]
d. hardness [Strong: 4643 sklerotes
sklay-rot'-ace from 4642; callousness, i.e. (figuratively)
stubbornness:--hardness.]
e. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee
apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a
cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection
(or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but,
even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
f. impenitent [Strong: 279 ametanoetos
am-et-an-o'-ay-tos from 1 (as a negative particle) and a presumed
derivative of 3340; unrepentant:--impenitent.]
g. heart [Strong: 2588 kardia
kar-dee'-ah prolonged from a primary kar (Latin cor, "heart");
the heart, i.e. (figuratively) the thoughts or feelings (mind); also (by
analogy) the middle:--(+ broken-)heart(-ed).]
h. treasurest up [Strong: 2343 thesaurizo
thay-sow-rid'-zo from 2344; to amass or reserve (literally or
figuratively):--lay up (treasure), (keep) in store, (heap) treasure (together,

i. unto thyself [Strong: 4572 seautou
seh-ow-too', genitive case from 4571 and 846, also dative case of the

contracted sautou sow-too', sautoi sow-to', and sauton sow-ton', respectively
of (with, to) thyself:--thee, thine own self, (thou) thy(-self).]
j. wrath [Strong: 3709 orge
or-gay' from 3713; properly, desire (as a reaching forth or excitement
of the mind), i.e. (by analogy), violent passion (ire, or (justifiable)
abhorrence); by implication punishment:--anger, indignation, vengeance, wrath.]
1). The word of God speaks how we
can lay up treasure in heaven through our godly generosity toward God.
Matthew 6:19, 20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon
earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and
steal:
6:20 But lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where
thieves do not break through nor steal:
2). Here it says an individual can treasure
up wrath for the day of wrath, the day of judgment.
2. “…against the day of wrath and revelation of the
righteous judgment of God;”
a. against [Strong: 1722 en
en a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or
state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e.
a relation of rest (intermediate between 1519 and 1537); "in," at,
(up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as,
at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (... sake of), + give self

there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with),
while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import;
rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except
(elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.]
b. the day [Strong: 2250 hemera
hay-mer'-ah feminine (with 5610 implied) of a derivative of hemai (to
sit; akin to the base of 1476) meaning tame, i.e. gentle; day, i.e. (literally)
the time space between dawn and dark, or the whole 24 hours (but several days
were usually reckoned by the Jews as inclusive of the parts of both extremes);
figuratively, a period (always defined more or less clearly by the
context):--age, + alway, (mid-)day (by day, (-ly)), + for ever, judgment, (day)
time, while, years.]
c. of wrath [Strong: 3709 orge or-gay' from
3713; properly, desire (as a reaching forth or excitement of the mind), i.e.
(by analogy), violent passion (ire, or (justifiable) abhorrence); by
implication punishment:--anger, indignation, vengeance, wrath.]
d. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee
apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a
cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection
(or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but,
even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
e. revelation [Strong: 602 apokalupsis
ap-ok-al'-oop-sis from 601; disclosure:--appearing, coming, lighten,
manifestation, be revealed, revelation.]
f. [of the] righteous judgment [Strong:
1341 dikaiokrisia dik-ah-yok-ris-ee'-ah
from 1342 and 2920; a just sentence:--righteous judgment.]
g. [of] God [Strong: 2316 theos
theh'-os of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with 3588) the
supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding,
God, god(-ly, -ward).]
1). I personally believe this is
referring to the Great White Throne Judgment. In this case, the wrath this
individual has been treasureing up will be judged and the righteous judgment of
God toward that treasuring up of wrath will be revealed.
a). Revelation 20:11-13 And I saw a great white throne, and him that
sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was
found no place for them.
20:12 And I saw the dead, small
and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was
opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things
which were written in the books, according to their works.
20:13 And the sea gave up the dead
which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them:
and they were judged every man according to their works.
2). The next verses reveal that very
thing.
a). Romans 5:6-9 Who will render
to every man according to his deeds:
2:7 To them who by patient
continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal
life:
2:8 But unto them that are
contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation
and wrath,
2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon
every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
