1. “Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.”

a. Notwithstanding [Strong: 1161. de deh a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]

b. [it] pleased [Strong: 1380. dokeo dok-eh'-o a prolonged form of a primary verb, doko dok'-o (used only in an alternate in certain tenses; compare the base of 1166) of the same meaning; to think; by implication, to seem (truthfully or uncertainly):--be accounted, (of own) please(-ure), be of reputation, seem (good), suppose, think, trow.]

c. [Strong: 3588. [tō] ὁ ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.] [Thayer: [tō] ὁ, ἡ, τό, originally τος, τῇ, τό (as is evident from the forms τοι, ται for οἱ, αἱ in Homer and the Ionic writings), corresponds to our definite article the (German der, die, das), which is properly a demonstrative pronoun, which we see in its full force in Homer, and of which we find certain indubitable traces also in all kinds of Greek prose, and hence also in the N. T.] [Additional variants: tē, hoi, oi, tēn, ta, tēs, tois, tais, tō, tōn, hé  hē, hai.]

d. Silas [Strong: 4609. Silas see'-las contraction for 4610; Silas, a Christian:--Silas.]

1). Unger’s Bible Dictionary: Silas (si’las; apparently Greek, from Aram, Sheila [Saul]. This name is evidently a contracted form of Silvanus (sylvan0, a prominent member of the church in Jerusalem (Acts 15:22. Of his immediate family no account is given, but his name, derived from the Latin silva, “wood,” betokens him a hellenistic jew, and he appears to have been a Roman citizen (Acts 16:37). He is probably the same as Silvanus, mentioned in Paul's epistles. Upon the return of Paul and Barnabas to Jerusalem from their missionary tour, a discussion arose respecting circumcision and the council decided against the extreme Judaizing party, Silas was appointed a delegate to accompany paul and Barnabas on their return to Antioch with the decree of the Council of Jerusalem (Acts 15, 22, 32), A.D. about 50. After accomplishing this mission he remained in Antioch, although granted permission to return (Acts 15:33, 34). The qualification of Silas for speaking to a congregation is stated (Acts 15:32).

e. [to] abide...still [Strong: 1961. epimeno ep-ee-men'-o from 1909 and 3306; to stay over, i.e. remain (figuratively, persevere):--abide (in), continue (in), tarry.]

there [Strong: 847. autou ow-too' genitive (i.e. possessive) of 846, used as an adverb of location; properly, belonging to the same spot, i.e. in this (or that) place:--(t-)here.]
