And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

1. “And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them…”

d. sabbath [days] [Strong: 4521. sabbaton sab'-bat-on of Hebrew origin (7676); the Sabbath (i.e. Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension, a se'nnight, i.e. the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications:--sabbath (day), week.]


1). Paul’s group stayed in Thessalonica for three weeks and then he was run out of town. But while he was there, the newly formed church in Philippi sent two offerings to Paul during those three weeks. Saints, that is a hundred miles and at best 20 miles a day travel. The logistics demonstrated their powerful love and dedication of the Philippian church to Christ Jesus.

4:16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

e. reasoned [Strong: 1256. dialegomai dee-al-eg'-om-ahee middle voice from 1223 and 3004; to say thoroughly, i.e. discuss (in argument or exhortation):--dispute, preach (unto), reason (with), speak.]


1). Acts of the Apostles, Robert A. Tourville: The thought is that Paul lectured, disputed, argued, and reasoned with the Jews in the synagogue. It was a give and take, question and answer way of setting forth that Jesus was the Messiah prophesied in their Scriptures.
