Deuteronomy 2:7
For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

1). The events of Deuteronomy 2:3-7, (the refusal of Edom to help Israel is found in Numbers 20.)

20:15 How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
20:16 And when we cried unto the Lord, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:
20:17 Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
20:18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.
20:19 And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.
20:20 And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
20:21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
2). Deuteronomy 2:3-7 records the refusal of Edom to give passage through their land. This is about 40 years after the exodus from Egypt. Deuteronomy 2:7 says this is the 40th year. We must remember that Moses is writing this during the 40th year (Deuteronomy 1:3), and is rehearsing what happened during their wandering through the desert. A number of incidents in Israel’s history during the 40 years that have not happened yet. In this incident with Edom Jewish tradition says it occurred 38 years after the exodus. The death of Aaron (Numbers 20:22-29); The battle with Arad the Canaanite (Numbers 21:1-3); The serpent of brass (Numbers 21:4-9); The wars with Sihon and Og (Numbers 21:21-35); Immediately after the wars with Sihon and Og, Israel moves to Shittim, on the plains of Moab, on the east side of the Jordan across from Jericho (Numbers 22:1). After moving to Abel-Shittim is the incident of Balaam and the kings of Moab and Midian (Numbers 22-24), Israel’s war with the Midianites (Numbers 31). They were at this location until Joshua 3:1 when Israel moved to the banks of the Jordan before crossing into Canaan.
3). In the detailed list of Israel’s moves found in Numbers 33, there is no mention of Edom’s refusal. It just records Israel’s move from Kadesh to Mount Hor.
a). Numbers 33:37 And they removed from Kadesh, and pitched in mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom.
