Psalm 45:6

Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

a. NLT: Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever. You rule with a scepter of justice.

1. “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever…”

a. [Thy] throne [Strong: 3678  kiççêʼ, kis-say'; or כִּסֵּה kiççêh; from H3680; properly, covered, i.e. a throne (as canopied):—seat, stool, throne.]

b. [O] God [Strong: 430 ʼĕlôhîym, el-o-heem'; plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:—angels, × exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), × (very) great, judges, × mighty.]

c. [is] forever [Strong: 5769  ʻôwlâm, o-lawm'; or עֹלָם ʻôlâm; from H5956; concealed, i.e. the vanishing point; generally, time out of mind (past or future), i.e. (practically) eternity; frequentatively, adverbial (especially with prepositional prefix) always:--alway(-s), ancient (time), any more, continuance, eternal, (for, (n-))ever(-lasting, -more, of old), lasting, long (time), (of) old (time), perpetual, at any time, (beginning of the) world (+ without end).

b. [and] ever [Strong: 5703 ʻad, ad; from H5710; properly a (peremptory) terminus, i.e. (by implication) duration, in the sense of advance or perpetuity (substantially as a noun, either with or without a preposition):--eternity, ever(- lasting, -more), old, perpetually, + world without end.

1). Psalm 93:2 Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

a). The word for “everlasting” is the same Hebrew word for “forever” in Psalm 45:6

2. “…the scepter of thy kingdom is a right scepter.”

a. [the] scepter [Strong: 7626 shêbeṭ, shay'-bet; from an unused root probably meaning to branch off; a scion, i.e. (literally) a stick (for punishing, writing, fighting, ruling, walking, etc.) or (figuratively) a clan:--X correction, dart, rod, sceptre, staff, tribe.]

1). Interestingly, it is the same Hebrew word used in these passages, but translated “rod”.

a). Psalm 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potters vessel.

b). Isaiah 11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

1). I believe the most powerful aspect of these verses Psalm 45:6, 7, beginning with this verse Psalm 45:6, is the fact it is dialogue between two persons of the Godhead. We don’t know that here in Psalms 45 but in Hebrews 1, the writer (presumably Paul), writes that Almighty GOD in Hebrews 1:1 says to his Son in Hebrews 1:8:

a). Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom.

b). This is a powerful witness to the deity of Christ, that Christ Jesus is as much God as the Father.
