Acts 2:23

Acts 2:23

Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

a. NLT: But God knew what would happen, and his prearranged plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to a cross and killed him.

b. NIV: This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,fn put him to death by nailing him to the cross.

c. YLT: this one, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, being given out, having taken by lawless hands, having crucified -- ye did slay;

d. Amplified Bible: This Jesus, when delivered up according to the definite and fixed purpose and settled plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and put out of the way [killing Him] by the hands of lawless and wicked men.

e. Worrell Translation: This Man, delivered up by the settled counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye, having fastened to the cross, through the hand of lawless ones, did slay:

1. “Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God…”

a. him [5126 * touton] [Strong: accusative case singular masculine of 3778; this (person, as objective of verb or preposition):--him, the same, that, this.]

b. being delivered [1560 * ekdotos] [Strong: from 1537 and a derivative of 1325; given out or over, i.e. surrendered:--delivered.]

c. by the determinate [3724 * horizo] [Strong: from 3725; to mark out or bound ("horizon"), i.e. (figuratively) to appoint, decree, specify:--declare, determine, limit, ordain.]

d. counsel [1012 * boule] [Strong: from 1014; volition, i.e. (objectively) advice, or (by implication) purpose:--+ advise, counsel, will.]

e. and [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

f. foreknowledge [4268 * prognosis] [Strong: from 4267; forethought:--foreknowledge.]

g. of God [2316 * theos] [Strong: of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with 3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]

1). The plan of redemption is older than the earth, planned out before the earth was created.

a). 1 Peter 1:18-20 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

2. “…ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:”

a. ye have taken [2983 * lambano] [Strong: a prolonged form of a primary verb, which is use only as an alternate in certain tenses; to take (in very many applications, literally and figuratively (properly objective or active, to get hold of; whereas 1209 is rather subjective or passive, to have offered to one; while 138 is more violent, to seize or remove)):--accept, + be amazed, assay, attain, bring, X when I call, catch, come on (X unto), + forget, have, hold, obtain, receive (X after), take (away, up).]

b. and by [1223 * dia] [Strong: a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act; through (in very wide applications, local, causal, or occasional):--after, always, among, at, to avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) ... fore, from, in, by occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though, through(-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same general importance.]

c. wicked [459 * anomos; a-without; nomos-law] [Strong: from 1 (as a negative particle) and 3551; lawless, i.e. (negatively) not subject to (the Jewish) law; (by implication, a Gentile), or (positively) wicked:--without law, lawless, transgressor, unlawful, wicked.]

d. hands [5495 * cheir] [Strong: perhaps from the base of 5494 in the sense of its congener the base of 5490 (through the idea of hollowness for grasping); the hand (literally or figuratively (power); especially (by Hebraism) a means or instrument):--hand.]

e. have crucified [4362 * prospegnumi] [Strong: from 4314 and 4078; to fasten to, i.e. (specially), to impale (on a cross):--crucify.]

f. and slain [337 * anaireo] [Strong: from 303 and (the active of) 138; to take up, i.e. adopt; by implication, to take away (violently), i.e. abolish, murder:--put to death, kill, slay, take away, take up.]
