Matthew 10:21

And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

a. NLT: “A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed.

b. NIV: “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.

c. YLT: 'And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child, and children shall rise up against parents, and shall put them to death,

d. Amplified Bible: Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children will take a stand against their parents and will have them put to death.

e. Worrell Translation: A brother will deliver up brother to death; and father, his child; and children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

1. “And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death…”

b. the brother [80 * adephos] [Strong: from 1 (as a connective particle) and delphus (the womb); a brother (literally or figuratively) near or remote (much like 1):--brother.]

c. shall deliver up [3860 * paradidomi] [Strong: from 3844 and 1325; to surrender, i.e yield up, intrust, transmit:--betray, bring forth, cast, commit, deliver (up), give (over, up), hazard, put in prison, recommend.]

3. “…and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.”

h. them [846 * autos] [Strong: from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]

1). Later in the chapter Jesus describes how family relationships will be divided over their relationship with Him/God.

10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
