1). J.Vernon Mcgee: These gifts for the making of the tabernacle were to be voluntary. The people were not required to bring anything. There was no demand put upon them at all. This was not the tithe. This is a voluntary gift.

2). Although the word “commanded” is used in this word of the LORD, it is stated in the next verse that this is a free will offering (Exodus 35:5). The original command by God to Moses concerning this offering was given the first time Moses ascended Sinai (Exodus 25:1-9).
