Duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these be the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession: he is Esau the father of the Edomites.

a. Duke [Strong: 441 ʼallûwph, al-loof'; or (shortened) אַלֻּף ʼalluph; from H502; familiar; a friend, also gentle; hence, a bullock (as being tame; applied, although masculine, to a cow); and so, a chieftain (as notable, like neat cattle):—captain, duke, (chief) friend, governor, guide, ox.]

b. Magdiel [Strong: 4025 Magdîyʼêl, mag-dee-ale'; from H4022 and H410; preciousness of God; Magdiel, an Idumaean:—Magdiel.]

c. duke [Strong: 441 ʼallûwph, al-loof'; or (shortened) אַלֻּף ʼalluph; from H502; familiar; a friend, also gentle; hence, a bullock (as being tame; applied, although masculine, to a cow); and so, a chieftain (as notable, like neat cattle):—captain, duke, (chief) friend, governor, guide, ox.]

b. [in the] land [Strong: 776 ʼerets, eh'-rets; from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):—× common, country, earth, field, ground, land, × natins, way, + wilderness, world.]

c. [of their] possession [Strong: 272 ʼăchuzzâh, akh-ooz-zaw'; feminine passive participle from H270; something seized, i.e. a possession (especially of land):—possession.]

d. [he is] Esau [Strong: 6215 ʻÊsâv, ay-sawv'; apparently a form of the passive participle of H6213 in the original sense of handling; rough (i.e. sensibly felt); Esav, a son of Isaac, including his posterity:—Esau.]
