2 Samuel 23:6

But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:

a. NLT: But the godless are like thorns to be thrown away, for they tear the hand that touches them.

b. NIV: But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns, which are not gathered with the hand.

c. YLT: As to the worthless -- As a thorn driven away are all of them, For -- not by hand are they taken;

d. Amplified Bible: But wicked, godless, and worthless lives are all like thorns to be thrust away, because they cannot be taken with the hand.

e. Septuagint: All these [are] as a thorn thrust forth, for they shall not be taken with the hand,

1. “But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away…”

a. But the sons of Belial [1100 * bliya’al] [Strong:  from 1097 and 3276; without profit, worthlessness; by extension, destruction, wickedness (often in connection with 376, 802, 1121, etc.):--Belial, evil, naughty, ungodly (men), wicked.]

b. shall be all of them as thorns [6975 * qowts] [Strong: from 6972 (in the sense of pricking); a thorn:--thorn.]

c. thrust away [5074 * nadad] [Strong: a primitive root; properly, to wave to and fro (rarely to flap up and down); figuratively, to rove, flee, or (causatively) to drive away:--chase (away), X could not, depart, flee (X apace, away), (re-)move, thrust away, wander (abroad, -er, -ing).]

2. “…because they cannot be taken with hands:”

a. because they cannot be taken [3947 * laqach] [Strong: a primitive root; to take (in the widest variety of applications):--accept, bring, buy, carry away, drawn, fetch, get, infold, X many, mingle, place, receive(-ing), reserve, seize, send for, take (away, -ing, up), use, win.]
