Hebrews 10:13
From
henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
a. NLT: There
he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet.
b. NIV: and
since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.
c. YLT: as to the rest, expecting
till He may place his enemies as his footstool,
d. AMP: Then to wait until His enemies
should be made a stool beneath His feet.
e. Worrell Translation: from
henceforth awaiting until His foes shall be placed as a footstool for His feet.
1.
“From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.”
a. from henceforth [3063 * loipon]
[Strong: neuter singular of the same as 3062; something remaining
(adverbially):--besides, finally, furthermore, (from) henceforth, moreover,
now, + it remaineth, then.]
1). From the moment he sat down, Jesus
expected his enemies to be made his footstool. Who would be the person
implementing this? Psalm 110:1 says it would be the LORD.
b. expecting [1551 * ekdechomai]
[Strong: from 1537 and 1209; to accept from some source, i.e. (by
implication) to await:--expect, look (tarry) for, wait (for).]
c. till [2193 * heos] [Strong: of
uncertain affinity; a conjunction, preposition and adverb of continuance, until
(of time and place):--even (until, unto), (as) far (as), how long,
(un-)til(-l), (hither-, un-, up) to, while(-s).]
d. his [846 * autos] [Strong: from
the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling
wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative
1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other
persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same,
((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves),
there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this
(man), those, together, very, which.]
e. enemies [2190 * echthros]
[Strong: from a primary echtho (to hate); hateful (passively, odious, or
actively, hostile); usually as a noun, an adversary (especially Satan):--enemy,
foe.]
f. be made [5087 * tithemi]
[Strong: a prolonged form of a primary theo theh'-o (which is used
only as alternate in certain tenses) to place (in the widest application,
literally and figuratively; properly, in a passive or horizontal posture, and
thus different from 2476, which properly denotes an upright and active
position, while 2749 is properly reflexive and utterly prostrate):--+ advise,
appoint, bow, commit, conceive, give, X kneel down, lay (aside, down, up),
make, ordain, purpose, put, set (forth), settle, sink down.]
g. his [846 * autos] See “his”
above.
h. footstool [5286 * hupopodion]
[Strong: neuter of a compound of 5259 and 4228; something under the feet, i.e.
a foot-rest (figuratively):--footstool.]
i. foot [4228 * pous] [Strong: a
primary word; a "foot" (figuratively or literally):--foot(-stool).]
1). We are positionally seated in
heavenly places. The image of us seated in heavenly places in Christ is not,
God the Father, then God the Son Jesus and then a whole bunch of chairs where
we sit. That is not it. It’s God the Father and next to Him, God the Son Jesus
and we are IN Christ. That’s it! When God the Father spoke those words to
Christ Jesus He was speaking them to us also. We were quickened with him,
raised with him and seated with Him.
a). Ephesians 2:4-6 But God, who is
rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
2:5 Even when we were dead in sins,
hath quickened us together, and made us sit together with Christ, (by grace ye
are saved;)
2:6 And hath raised us up together,
and made us sit together, in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
2). The Apostle Paul prayed for the
church to get a revelation of the authority that was given to us when Christ
was raised from the dead and was seated at the right hand of God.
a). Ephesians 1:15-23 Wherefore I
also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and your love unto all the
saints,
1:16 Cease not to give thanks for
you, making mention of you in my prayers;
1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of him:
1:18 The eyes of your understanding
being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what
the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
1:19 And what is the exceeding
greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his
mighty power,
1:20 Which he wrought in Christ,
when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the
heavenly places,
1:21 Far above all principality,
and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in
this world, but also in that which is to come:
1:22 And hath put all things under
his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
1:23 Which is his body, the
fullness of him that filleth all in all.
b). The authority given to the
church is exceedingly great! It is far above all principality, and power, and
might, and dominion, and every name that is named! All things are put under his
feet. When the Father spoke the words to the Son; “Sit thou at my right hand
until I make thine enemies thy footstool!” He was speaking them to us.
