Galatians 4:27

For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

a. NLT: As Isaiah said, “Rejoice, O childless woman, you who have never given birth!
Break into a joyful shout, you who have never been in labor! For the desolate woman now has more children than the woman who lives with her husband!”

b. NIV: For it is written: “Be glad, barren woman, you who never bore a child; shout for joy and cry aloud, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband.”

c. YLT: for it hath been written, 'Rejoice, O barren, who art not bearing; break forth and cry, thou who art not travailing, because many are the children of the desolate -- more than of her having the husband.'

d. Amplified Bible Classic: For it is written in the Scriptures, Rejoice, O barren woman, who has not given birth to children; break forth into a joyful shout, you who are not feeling birth pangs, for the desolate woman has many more children than she who has a husband.

1. “For it is written…”

2. “…Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not…”

a. Rejoice [2165 * euphraínō] [Strong: from G2095 and G5424; to put (middle voice or passively, be) in a good frame of mind, i.e. rejoice:—fare, make glad, be (make) merry, rejoice.]

b. barren [4723 * steíros] [Strong: a contraction from G4731 (as stiff and unnatural); "sterile":—barren.]

c. that bearest [5088 * tilto] [Strong: a strengthened form of a primary τέκω tékō tek'-o (which is used only as alternate in certain tenses); to produce (from seed, as a mother, a plant, the earth, etc.), literally or figuratively:—bear, be born, bring forth, be delivered, be in travail.]

3. “…break forth and cry, thou that travailest not…”

a. break forth [4486 *  rhḗgnymi] [Strong: both prolonged forms of ῥήκω rhḗkō (which appears only in certain forms, and is itself probably a strengthened form of ἄγνυμι ágnymi (see in G2608)) to "break," "wreck" or "crack", i.e. (especially) to sunder (by separation of the parts; G2608 being its intensive (with the preposition in composition), and G2352 a shattering to minute fragments; but not a reduction to the constituent particles, like G3089) or disrupt, lacerate; by implication, to convulse (with spasms); figuratively, to give vent to joyful emotions:—break (forth), burst, rend, tear.]

b. and [2532 * kai] [Strong:  apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:—and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

d. thou that travailest [5605 * odino] [Strong: from G5604; to experience the pains of parturition (literally or figuratively):—travail in (birth).]

4. “…for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.”

d. children [5043 * teknon] [Strong: from the base of 5098; a child (as produced):--child, daughter, son.]

e. than [3123 * mallon] [Strong: neuter of the comparative of the same as 3122; (adverbially) more (in a greater degree)) or rather:--+ better, X far, (the) more (and more), (so) much (the more), rather.]

h. an husband [435 * aner] [Strong: a primary word (compare 444); a man (properly as an individual male):--fellow, husband, man, sir.]

1). This is a quote from Isaiah 54:1.

a). Isaiah 54:1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the Lord.

2). What this shows is that this passage in Isaiah 54:1-14 is in the beginning stages of being fulfilled, the beginning being the establishment of the New Covenant in the death and resurrection of Christ, and the beginning fulfillment of Isaiah 54:1.
