Exodus 13:22
He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

1. “He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night…”
a. [He] took…away [Strong: 4185 muwsh moosh a primitive root (perhaps rather the same as 4184 through the idea of receding by contact); to withdraw (both literally and figuratively, whether intransitive or transitive):--cease, depart, go back, remove, take away.]

2. “…from before the people.”

b. the people [Strong: 5971 `am am from 6004; a people (as a congregated unit); specifically, a tribe (as those of Israel); hence (collectively) troops or attendants; figuratively, a flock:--folk, men, nation, people.]
1). This particular Divine manifestation of the presence of God was with the Israelites the entire 40 years previous to going into the Promise Land. After entering Canaan it is not seen in this particular manifestation (pillar of fire and pillar of cloud). Though he did manifest Himself to His people. It has been speculated that it ceased when the manna ceased when the crossed the Jordan river immediately before the fall of Jericho (Joshua 5:12).
2). During the 1000 year reign of Jesus, every house in Mt. Zion will have the pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
a). Isaiah 4:5, 6 And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shinning of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.
4:6 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the day time from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.
