Colossians 3:8

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

a. NLT: But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty 

language.

b. NIV: But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

1. “But now ye also put off all these…”

a. But [Strong: 1161 de deh a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]

b. now [Strong: 3570 nuni noo-nee' a prolonged form of 3568 for emphasis; just now:--now.]

c. ye [Strong: 5210 humeis hoo-mice' irregular plural of 4771; you (as subjective of verb):--ye (yourselves), you.]

2. “…anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.”

a. anger [Strong: 3709 orge or-gay' from 3713; properly, desire (as a reaching forth or excitement of the mind), i.e. (by analogy), violent passion (ire, or (justifiable) abhorrence); by implication punishment:--anger, indignation, vengeance, wrath.]

b. wrath [Strong: 2372 thumos thoo-mos' from 2380; passion (as if breathing hard):--fierceness, indignation, wrath.]

c. malice [Strong: 2549 kakia kak-ee'-ah from 2556; badness, i.e. (subjectively) depravity, or (actively) malignity, or (passively) trouble:--evil, malice(-iousness), naughtiness, wickedness.]

d. blasphemy [Strong: 988 blasphemia blas-fay-me'-ah from 989; vilification (especially against God):--blasphemy, evil speaking, railing.]

e. filthy communication [Strong: 148 aischrologia ahee-skhrol-og-ee'-ah from 150 and 3056; vile conversation:--filthy communication.]

1). The mouth of the wicked is full of cursing.

a).  Psalm 10:4-7 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

10:5 His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

10:6 He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.

10:7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

b). Psalm 109:17-19 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

109:18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

109:19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

c). Psalm 139:20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

2). As believers in covenant with God we are to clean up our language.

a). Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
