So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.

1). Following our own thoughts instead of God’s word will always get us into serious trouble. Everything that Jeroboam did after the LORD spoke to him through the prophet Ahijah was out of his own heart. He imagined that Israel would return to the house of David, he made two calves of gold and invented his own priesthood and feast days..
