10:28
He
that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
a. NLT: For
anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on
the testimony of two or three witnesses.
b. NIV: Anyone
who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or
three witnesses.
c. YLT: any
one who did set at nought a law of Moses, apart from mercies, by two or three
witnesses, doth die,
d. Amplified Bible: Any person who has violated and [thus]
rejected and set at naught the Law of Moses is put to death
without pity or mercy on the evidence of two or three
witnesses.
e. Worrell Translation: Anyone,
having set aside Moses’ law, dies without mercy on the testimony of two or
three witnesses;

“…died without mercy under two or three witnesses:”

1). Under the Mosaic Law there had
to be two or three witnesses that could corroborate testimony proving guilt
weather in death penalty cases or non-death penalty cases.
a). Deuteronomy 19:15 One witness
shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin
that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three
witnesses, shall the matter be established.
2). Jesus said it would be the same
in disciplinary actions in the church.
a). Matthew 18:15-17 Moreover if
thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee
and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
18:16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or
two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be
established.
18:17 And if he shall neglect to
hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear
the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
3). It is also required in
establishing doctrine.
a). 2 Corinthians 13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the
mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.
