Hebrews 9:8
The
Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet
made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
a. NLT: By
these regulations the Holy Spirit revealed that the entrance to the Most Holy
Place was not freely open as long as the Tabernacle and the system it
represented were still in use.
b. NIV: The Holy Spirit was showing
by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as
long as the first tabernacle was still functioning.
c. YLT: the Holy Spirit this
evidencing that not yet hath been manifested the way of the holy places,
the first tabernacle having yet a standing;
d. Amplified Bible: By this the
Holy Spirit points out that the way into the [true Holy of] Holies is not yet
thrown open as long as the former [the outer portion of the] tabernacle remains
a recognized institution and is still standing,
e. Worrell Translation: the Holy
Spirit signifying this, that the way into the Holies has not yet been made
manifest, while the first tabernacle is yet standing.
1.
“The Holy Ghost this signifying…”
a. The Holy [40 * hagios] [Strong: from
hagos (an awful thing) (compare 53, 2282); sacred (physically, pure, morally
blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated):--(most) holy (one, thing),
saint.]
b. Ghost [4151 * pneuma] [Strong: from
4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or
figuratively, a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital
principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, demon, or
(divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit:--ghost, life, spirit(-ual,
-ually), mind.]
c. this [5124 * touto] [Strong: neuter
singular nominative or accusative case of 3778; that thing:--here (-unto), it,
partly, self(-same), so, that (intent), the same, there(-fore, -unto), this,
thus, where(-fore).]
d. signifying [1213 * deloo]
[Strong: from 1212; to make plain (by words):--declare, shew, signify.]
1). We see here which person of the
Godhead was directing Moses in the building of the Tabernacle. It was the Holy
Ghost.
a). Hebrews 8:5 Who serve unto the
example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he
was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things
according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
2.
“…that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest…”
a. that the way [3598 * hodos]
[Strong: apparently a primary word; a road; by implication, a progress
(the route, act or distance); figuratively, a mode or means:--journey,
(high-)way.]
b. into the holiest of all [39 *
hagion] [Strong: neuter of 40; a sacred thing (i.e. spot):--holiest (of all),
holy place, sanctuary.]
c. was made…manifest [5319 *
phaneroo] [Strong: from 5318; to render apparent (literally or
figuratively):--appear, manifestly declare, (make) manifest (forth), shew
(self).]
d. not yet [3380 * mepo] [Strong: from
3361 and 4452; not yet:--not yet.]
1). At the death of Christ the veil
of the Temple that divided the Holy place from the Holy of Holies was ripped
from top to bottom because it was not only ripped by God but He was revealing
that the veil separating the holy from the Holy of Holies was no longer valid.
After his resurrection Christ ascended into heaven and placed his blood on the
mercy seat purchasing our eternal redemption.
a). Matthew 27:50, 51 Jesus, when
he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
27:51 And, behold, the veil of the
temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake,
and the rocks rent;
3.
“…while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:”
a. while as the first [4413 *
proton] [Strong: contracted superlative of 4253; foremost (in time, place,
order or importance):--before, beginning, best, chief(-est), first (of all),
former.]
b. tabernacle [4433 * skene]
[Strong: apparently akin to 4632 and
4639; a tent or cloth hut (literally or figuratively):--habitation, tabernacle.]
1). The “first tabernacle” to which
the inspired writer of Hebrews is referring to is the entire Mosaic legal
system. Literally the actual “first tabernacle” was Solomon’s Temple and it was
destroyed in 586 B.C. The second was Zerubbabel’s 516 B.C. which was destroyed
in 70 A.D.
c. was [2192 * echo] [Strong: including
an alternate form scheo skheh'-o; (used in certain tenses only) a

necessity, + need, next, + recover, + reign, + rest, + return, X sick, take
for, + tremble, + uncircumcised, use.]
d. yet [2089 * eti] [Strong: perhaps
akin to 2094; "yet," still (of time or degree):--after that, also,
ever, (any) further, (t-)henceforth (more), hereafter, (any) longer, (any)
more(-one), now, still, yet.]
e. standing [4714 * stasis]
[Strong: from the base of 2476; a standing (properly, the act), i.e. (by
analogy) position (existence); by implication, a popular uprising;
figuratively, controversy:--dissension, insurrection, X standing, uproar.]
1). When Christ Jesus died and rose
from the dead and placed his blood on the mercy seat in heaven, the way into
the holiest was manifested to all.
a). Hebrews 10:15-22 Whereof the
Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
10:16 This is the covenant that I
will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into
their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
10:17 And their sins and iniquities
will I remember no more.
10:18 Now where remission of these
is, there is no more offering for sisn.
10:19 Having therefore, brethren,
boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
10:20 By a new and living way,
which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
10:21 And having an high priest
over the house of God;
10:22 Let us draw near with a true
heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil
conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
