Hebrews 9:9
Which
was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and
sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining
to the conscience;
a. NLT: This
is an illustration pointing to the present time. For the gifts and sacrifices
that the priests offer are not able to cleanse the consciences of the people
who bring them.
b. NIV: This is an illustration for
the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were
not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper.
c. YLT: which is a
simile in regard to the present time, in which both gifts and sacrifices are
offered, which are not able, in regard to conscience, to make perfect him who
is serving,
d. Amplified Bible: Seeing that
that first [outer portion of the] tabernacle was a parable (a visible symbol or
type or picture of the present age). In it gifts and sacrifices are offered,
and yet are incapable of perfecting the conscience or of
cleansing andrenewing the inner man of the worshiper.
e. Worrell Translation: which,
indeed, is a figure for the time present, according to which are offered both
gifts and sacrifices, which cannot, as pertaining to the conscience, make the
worshipper perfect;

Christ was applied to the heavenly mercy seat that our conscience can be
cleared.

assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and
our bodies washed with pure water.
