Hebrews 2:16

Hebrews 2:16

For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

a. NLT: We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham.

b. NIV: For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.

c. YLT: for, doubtless, of messengers it doth not lay hold, but of seed of Abraham it layeth hold,

d. Amplified Bible Classic:  For, as we all know, He [Christ] did not take hold of angels [[a]the fallen angels, to give them a helping and delivering hand], but He did take hold of [[b]the fallen] descendants of Abraham [to reach out to them a helping and delivering hand].

e. Worrell Translation: For surely He does not succor angels, butHe succoreth Abraham’s seed.

1. “For verily he took not on him the nature of angels”

a. for [1063 * gar] [Strong: a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

b. verily [1222 * depou] [Strong: from 1211 and 4225; a particle of asseveration; indeed doubtless:--verily.]

c. he took…on [1949 * epilambanomai] [Strong: middle voice from 1909 and 2983; to seize (for help, injury, attainment, or any other purpose; literally or figuratively):--catch, lay hold (up-)on, take (by, hold of, on).]

d. not [3756 * ou, also (before a vowel) ouk, and (before an aspirate) ouch] [Strong: a primary word; the absolute negative (compare 3361) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]

e. the nature of angels [32 * aggelos] [Strong: from aggello (probably derived from 71; compare 34) (to bring tidings); a messenger; especially an "angel"; by implication, a pastor:--angel, messenger.]

2. “…but he took on him the seed of Abraham.”

a. but [235 * alla] [Strong: neuter plural of 243; properly, other things, i.e. (adverbially) contrariwise (in many relations):--and, but (even), howbeit, indeed, nay, nevertheless, no, notwithstanding, save, therefore, yea, yet.]

b. he took…on [1949 * epilambanomai] [Strong: middle voice from 1909 and 2983; to seize (for help, injury, attainment, or any other purpose; literally or figuratively):--catch, lay hold (up-)on, take (by, hold of, on).]
c. the seed [4690 * sperma] [Strong:  from 4687; something sown, i.e. seed (including the male "sperm"); by implication, offspring; specially, a remnant (figuratively, as if kept over for planting):--issue, seed.]

d. of Abraham [11 * Abraam] [Strong: of Hebrew origin (85); Abraham, the Hebrew patriarch:--Abraham.]
