Hebrews 10:34

For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

a. ASV: For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one.
  
b. YLT: for also with my bonds ye sympathised, and the robbery of your goods with joy ye did receive, knowing that ye have in yourselves a better substance in the heavens, and an enduring one.
d. Amplified Bible Classic: For you did sympathize and suffer along with those who were imprisoned, and you bore cheerfully the plundering of your belongings and the confiscation of your property, in the knowledge and  consciousness that you yourselves had a better and lasting possession.
1. “For ye had compassion of me in my bonds…”

a. e. bonds [Strong: 1199 desmón, des-mon'; neuter and masculine respectively from G1210; a band, i.e. ligament (of the body) or shackle (of a prisoner); figuratively, an impediment or disability:—band, bond, chain, string.]
  
2.  “...and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods…”

d. joyfully [Strong: 5479 chará, khar-ah'; from G5463; cheerfulness, i.e. calm delight:—gladness, ×greatly, (X be exceeding) joy(-ful, -fully, -fulness, -ous).]
e. the [Strong: 3588 ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.] [Thayer: [Ten]  ὁ, ἡ, τό, originally τος, τῇ, τό (as is evident from the forms τοι, ται for οἱ, αἱ in Homer and the Ionic writings), corresponds to our definite article the (German der, die, das), which is properly a demonstrative pronoun, which we see in its full force in Homer, and of which we find certain indubitable traces also in all kinds of Greek prose, and hence also in the N. T.]
  
f. spoiling [Strong: 724 harpagḗ, har-pag-ay'; from G726; pillage (properly abstract):—extortion, ravening, spoiling.]

g. [of] your [Strong: 5216 hymōn, hoo-mone'; genitive case of G5210; of (from or concerning) you:—ye, you, your (own, -selves).]
h. goods [Strong: 5224 hypárchonta, hoop-ar'-khon-tah; neuter plural of present participle active of G5225 as noun; things extant or in hand, i.e. property or possessions:—goods, that which one has, things which (one) possesseth, substance, that hast.]

1). Many Jewish men and women were banished and disinherited from their families because of their faith in Christ similar to the threat of being put out of the synagogue for believing in Christ.

a). John 9:20-22 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
9:21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
9:22 These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

b). John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
3. “...knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.”

a. knowing [Strong: 1097 ginṓskō, ghin-oce'-ko; a prolonged form of a primary verb; to "know" (absolutely) in a great variety of applications and with many implications (as follow, with others not thus clearly expressed):—allow, be aware (of), feel, (have) know(-ledge), perceived, be resolved, can speak, be sure, understand.]

c. yourselves [Strong: 1438  heautoû, heh-ow-too'; from a reflexive pronoun otherwise obsolete and the genitive case (dative case or accusative case) of G846; him- (her-, it-, them-, also (in conjunction with the personal pronoun of the other persons) my-, thy-, our-, your-) self (selves), etc.:—alone, her (own, -self), (he) himself, his (own), itself, one (to) another, our (thine) own(-selves), + that she had, their (own, own selves), (of) them(-selves), they, thyself, you, your (own, own conceits, own selves, -selves).]

d. that ye have [Strong: 2192 échō, ekh'-o; a primary verb; to hold (used in very various applications, literally or figuratively, direct or remote; such as possession; ability, continuity, relation, or condition):—be (able, × hold, possessed with), accompany, + begin to amend, can(+ -not), × conceive, count, diseased, do + eat, + enjoy, + fear, following, have, hold, keep, + lack, + go to law, lie, + must needs, + of necessity, + need, next, +recover, + reign, + rest, + return, × sick, take for, + tremble, + uncircumcised, use.]

g. [a] better [Strong: 2909 kreíttōn, krite'-tohn; comparative of a derivative of G2904; stronger, i.e. (figuratively) better, i.e. nobler:—best, better.]

j. substance [Strong: 5223 hýparxis, hoop'-arx-is; from G5225; existency or proprietorship, i.e. (concretely) property, wealth:—goods, substance.]

1). Moses exhibited the same attitude toward material things in comparison to the riches of Christ.

a). Hebrews 11:24-26 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
11:26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
