Hebrews 12:11

Hebrews 12:11

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

a. ASV: All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, even the fruit of righteousness.
  
b. YLT: And all chastening for the present, indeed, doth not seem to be of joy, but of sorrow, yet afterward the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those exercised through it -- it doth yield.
d. Amplified Bible Classic: For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness—in conformity to God’s will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God].
1. “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous…”

2. “...nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness…”

3.  “...unto them which are exercised thereby.”

a. [unto them which are] exercised [Strong: 1128 gymnázō, goom-nad'-zo; from G1131; to practise naked (in the games), i.e. train (figuratively):—exercise.]

1). The Classic Amplified I believe says it best: “to those who have been trained by it”. After discipline has been administered we receive it and walk in obedience to it. We do not walk in the behavior that brought the discipline. In the other uses of the word, the first two listed below are referring to walking in obedience, while the last one refers to walking in disobedience.

a). 1 Timothy 4:7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

b). Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

c). 2 Peter 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
