Hebrews 12:25

See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

b. YLT: See, may ye not refuse him who is speaking, for if those did not escape who refused him who upon earth was divinely speaking -- much less we who do turn away from him who speaketh from heaven,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: So see to it that you do not reject Him or refuse to listen to and heed Him Who is speaking [to you now]. For if they [the Israelites] did not escape when they refused to listen and heed Him Who warned and divinely instructed them [here] on earth [revealing with heavenly warnings His will], how much less shall we escape if we reject and turn our backs on Him Who cautions and admonishes [us] from heaven?

1. “See that ye refuse not him that speaketh…”

a. See [Strong: 991 blépō, blep'-o; a primary verb; to look at (literally or figuratively):—behold, beware, lie, look (on, to), perceive, regard, see, sight, take heed.]

b. [that ye] refuse [Strong: 3868 paraitéomai, par-ahee-teh'-om-ahee; from G3844 and the middle voice of G154; to beg off, i.e. deprecate, decline, shun:—avoid, (make) excuse, intreat, refuse, reject.]

c. not [Strong: 3361 mḗ, may; a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas G3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas G3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether:—any but (that), × forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations.]

d. [him that] speaketh [Strong: 2980 laléō, lal-eh'-o; a prolonged form of an otherwise obsolete verb; to talk, i.e. utter words:—preach, say, speak (after), talk, tell, utter.]

2. “...For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth…”

a. For [Strong: 1063 gár, gar; a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):—and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

b. if [Strong:1487 ei, i; a primary particle of conditionality; if, whether, that, etc.:—forasmuch as, if, that, (al-)though, whether.]

c. they [Strong: 1565 ekeînos, ek-i'-nos; from G1563; that one (or (neuter) thing); often intensified by the article prefixed:—he, it, the other (same), selfsame, that (same, very), × their, × them, they, this, those.]

d. escaped [Strong: 5343 pheúgō, fyoo'-go; apparently a primary verb; to run away (literally or figuratively); by implication, to shun; by analogy, to vanish:—escape, flee (away).]

e. not [Strong: 3756 ou, oo; a primary word; the absolute negative (compare G3361) adverb; no or not:—+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]

  

f. [who] refused [him] [Strong: 3868 paraitéomai, par-ahee-teh'-om-ahee; from G3844 and the middle voice of G154; to beg off, i.e. deprecate, decline, shun:—avoid, (make) excuse, intreat, refuse, reject.]

g. [that] spake [Strong: 5537 chrēmatízō, khray-mat-id'-zo; from G5536; to utter an oracle (compare the original sense of G5530), i.e. divinely intimate; by implication, (compare the secular sense of G5532) to constitute a firm for business, i.e. (generally) bear as a title:—be called, be admonished (warned) of God, reveal, speak.]

h. on [Strong: 1909 epí, ep-ee'; a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:—about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, × have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with.]

3.  “...much more shall not we escape…”

a. much [Strong: 4183 polýs, pol-oos'; including the forms from the alternate πολλός pollós; (singular) much (in any respect) or (plural) many; neuter (singular) as adverbial, largely; neuter (plural) as adverb or noun often, mostly, largely:—abundant, +altogether, common, + far (passed, spent), (+ be of a) great (age, deal, -ly, while), long, many, much, oft(-en (-times)), plenteous, sore, straitly.]

b. more [Strong: 3123 mâllon, mal'-lon; neuter of the comparative of the same as G3122; (adverbially) more (in a greater degree)) or rather:—+ better, × far, (the) more (and more), (so) much (the more), rather.]

c. [shall not] we [escape] [Strong: 2249 hēmeîs, hay-mice'; nominative plural of G1473; we (only used when emphatic):—us, we (ourselves).]

1). There is no escape other than the salvation provided in Christ Jesus.

a). Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him.

b). The Greek word “neglect” means “to show no concern for”. In Jeremiah 4:17 in the Septuagint it is translated “rebellious”.

2). Believing the gospel will bring the power of God, the throne of God to bear on any situation.

a). Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first,and also to the Greek.     

4. “...if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:”

a. [if we] turn away [from him] [Strong: 654 apostréphō, ap-os-tref'-o; from G575 and G4762; to turn away or back (literally or figuratively):—bring again, pervert, turn away (from).]

b. [that speaketh] from [Strong: 575 apó, apo'; a primary particle; "off," i.e. away (from something near), in various senses (of place, time, or relation; literal or figurative):—(X here-)after, ago, at, because of, before, by (the space of), for(-th), from, in, (out) of, off, (up-)on(-ce), since, with.]

c. heaven [Strong: 3772 ouranós, oo-ran-os'; perhaps from the same as G3735 (through the idea of elevation); the sky; by extension, heaven (as the abode of God); by implication, happiness, power, eternity; specially, the Gospel (Christianity):—air, heaven(-ly), sky.]
