Hebrews 12:7

If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

a. ASV: It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not?

  

b. YLT: If chastening ye endure, as to sons God beareth Himself to you, for who is a son whom a father doth not chasten?

d. Amplified Bible Classic: You must submit to and endure [correction] for discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons. For what son is there whom his father does not [thus] train and correct and discipline?

1. “If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons…”

a. If [Strong: 1487 ei, i; a primary particle of conditionality; if, whether, that, etc.:—forasmuch as, if, that, (al-)though, whether.]

b. [ye] endure [Strong: 5278 hypoménō, hoop-om-en'-o; from G5259 and G3306; to stay under (behind), i.e. remain; figuratively, to undergo, i.e. bear (trials), have fortitude, persevere:—abide, endure, (take) patient(-ly), suffer, tarry behind.]

c. chastening [Strong: 3809 paideía, pahee-di'-ah; from G3811; tutorage, i.e. education or training; by implication, disciplinary correction:—chastening, chastisement, instruction, nurture.]

d. God [Strong: 2316 theós, theh'-os; of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:—X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]

e. dealeth [Strong: 4374 prosphérō, pros-fer'-o; from G4314 and G5342 (including its alternate); to bear towards, i.e. lead to, tender (especially to God), treat:—bring (to, unto), deal with, do, offer (unto, up), present unto, put to.]

h. [with] sons [Strong: 5207 huiós, hwee-os'; apparently a primary word; a "son" (sometimes of animals), used very widely of immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship:—child, foal, son.]

2. “...for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?”

a. for [Strong: 1063 gár, gar; a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):—and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

f. [the] father [Strong: 3962 patḗr, pat-ayr'; apparently a primary word; a "father" (literally or figuratively, near or more remote):—father, parent.]

g. chasteneth [Strong: 3811 paideúō, pahee-dyoo'-o; from G3816; to train up a child, i.e. educate, or (by implication), discipline (by punishment):—chasten(-ise), instruct, learn, teach.]

h. not [Strong: 3756 ou, oo; a primary word; the absolute negative (compare G3361) adverb; no or not:—+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]
