Leviticus 1:14

Leviticus 1:14

And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtle doves, or of young pigeons.

a. ASV: And if his oblation to Jehovah be a burnt-offering of birds, then he shall offer his oblation of turtle-doves, or of young pigeons.

b. YLT: 'And if his offering is a burnt-offering out of the fowl to Jehovah, than he hath brought near his offering out of the turtle-doves or out of the young pigeons,

1. “And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls…”

a. b. [the] burnt sacrifice [Strong: 5930 ʻôlâh, o-law'; or עוֹלָה ʻôwlâh; feminine active participle of H5927; a step or (collectively, stairs, as ascending); usually a holocaust (as going up in smoke):—ascent, burnt offering (sacrifice), go up to.]

c. [for his] offering [Strong: 7133 qorbân, kor-bawn'; or קֻרְבָּן qurbân; from H7126; something brought near the altar, i.e. a sacrificial present:—oblation, that is offered, offering.]

d. [to the] LORD Yᵉhôvâh, yeh-ho-vaw'; from H1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jeho-vah, Jewish national name of God:—Jehovah, the Lord.]

e.  [be] of [Strong: 4480 min min or minniy {min-nee'}; or minney (constructive plural) {min-nay'}; (Isaiah 30:11); for 4482; properly, a part of; hence (prepositionally), from or out of in many senses (as follows):--above, after, among, at, because of, by (reason of), from (among), in, X neither, X nor, (out) of, over, since, X then, through, X whether, with.]

f. fowls [Strong: 5775 ʻôwph, ofe; from H5774; a bird (as covered with feathers, or rather as covering with wings), often collectively:—bird, that flieth, flying, fowl.]

2. “...then he shall bring his offering of turtle doves, or of young pigeons.”

a. [then he shall] bring [Strong: 7126 qârab, kaw-rab'; a primitive root; to approach (causatively, bring near) for whatever purpose:—(cause to) approach, (cause to) bring (forth, near), (cause to) come (near, nigh), (cause to) draw near (nigh), go (near), be at hand, join, be near, offer, present, produce, make ready, stand, take.]

b. [his] offering [Strong: 7133 qorbân, kor-bawn'; or קֻרְבָּן qurbân; from H7126; something brought near the altar, i.e. a sacrificial present:—oblation, that is offered, offering.]

d. turtle doves [Strong: 8449 tôwr, tore; or תֹּר tôr; probably the same as H8447; a ring-dove, often (figuratively) as a term of endearment:—(turtle) dove.]

e. or [Strong: 176 'ow o presumed to be the "constructive" or genitival form of -av {av}; short for 185; desire (and so probably in Prov. 31:4); hence (by way of alternative) or, also if:--also, and, either, if, at the least, X nor, or, otherwise, then, whether.]

g. young [Strong: 1121 bên, bane; from H1129; a son (as a builder of the family name), in the widest sense (of literal and figurative relationship, including grandson, subject, nation, quality or condition, etc., (like father or brother), etc.):—afflicted, age, (Ahoh-) (Ammon-) (Hachmon-) (Lev-) ite, (anoint-) ed one, appointed to, (+) arrow, (Assyr-) (Babylon-) (Egypt-) (Grec-) ian, one born, bough, branch, breed, + (young) bullock, + (young) calf, × came up in, child, colt, × common, × corn, daughter, × of first, firstborn, foal, + very fruitful, + postage, × in, + kid, + lamb, (+) man, meet, +mighty, + nephew, old, (+) people, rebel, + robber, × servant born, × soldier, son, +spark, steward, + stranger, × surely, them of, + tumultuous one, valiant(-est), whelp, worthy, young (one), youth.]

h. pigeons [Strong: 3123 yôwnâh, yo-naw'; probably from the same as H3196; a dove (apparently from the warmth of their mating):—dove, pigeon.
1). These instructions are for those whose economic ability was not able to bring a bull from the herd or a sheep from the flock. The different kinds of animals were because of the different financial abilities of the people.

a). The rich: a bull from the herd: Leviticus: 1:5.

b). Middle Class: a male sheep from the herd: Leviticus 1:10.

c). Poor: two turtle doves or young pigeons: Leviticus 1:14.
