1. “And he spake three thousand proverbs…”
a. [And he] spake [Strong: 1696 dâbar, daw-bar'; a primitive root; perhaps properly, to arrange; but used figuratively (of words), to speak; rarely (in a destructive sense) to subdue:—answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, destroy, give, name, promise, pronounce, rehearse, say, speak, be spokesman, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think, use (entreaties), utter, × well, × work.] [The KJV translates Strong's H1696 in the following manner: speak (840x), say (118x), talk (46x), promise (31x), tell (25x), commune (20x), pronounce (14x), utter (7x), command 4 misc (38x).]
b. three [Strong: 7969 shâlôwsh, shaw-loshe'; or שָׁלֹשׁ shâlôsh; masculine שְׁלוֹשָׁה shᵉlôwshâh; or שְׁלֹשָׁה shᵉlôshâh; a primitive number; three; occasionally (ordinal) third, or (multiple) thrice:—+ fork, + often(-times), third, thir(-teen, -teenth), three, + thrice.] [The KJV translates Strong's H7969 in the following manner: three (388x), thirteen (with H6240) (13x), thirteenth (with H6240) (11x), third (9x), thrice (with H6471) (4x), threescore and thirteen (with H7657) (2x), stories (1x), forks (with H7053) (1x), oftentimes (with H6471) (1x).]
c. thousand [Strong: 505 ʼeleph, eh'-lef; prop, the same as H504; hence (the ox's head being the first letter of the alphabet, and this eventually used as a numeral) a thousand:—thousand.] [The KJV translates Strong's H505 in the following manner: thousand (500x), eleven hundred (with H3967) (3x), variant (1x), twelve hundred (with H3967) (1x).]
d. proverbs [Strong: mâshâl, maw-shawl'; apparently from H4910 in some original sense of superiority in mental action; properly, a pithy maxim, usually of metaphorical nature; hence, a simile (as an adage, poem, discourse):—byword, like, parable, proverb.
1). Not all the proverbs in the Book of Proverbs are Solomon’s. For instance Proverbs 31 is not his.
2. “...and his songs were a thousand and five.”
a. [and his] songs [Strong: 7892 shîyr, sheer; or feminine שִׁירָה shîyrâh; from H7891; a song; abstractly, singing:—musical(-ick), × sing(-er, -ing), song.] [The KJV translates Strong's H7892 in the following manner: song (74x), musick (7x), singing (4x), musical (2x), sing (1x), singers (1x), song (with H1697) (1x).]
b. were [Strong: 1961 hayah haw-yaw a primitive root (Compare 1933); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary):--beacon, X altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, + follow, happen, X have, last, pertain, quit (one-)self, require, X use.]
c. [a] thousand [Strong: 505 ʼeleph, eh'-lef; prop, the same as H504; hence (the ox's head being the first letter of the alphabet, and this eventually used as a numeral) a thousand:—thousand.] [The KJV translates Strong's H505 in the following manner: thousand (500x), eleven hundred (with H3967) (3x), variant (1x), twelve hundred (with H3967) (1x).]
d. [and] five [Strong: 2568 châmêsh, khaw-maysh'; masculine חֲמִשָּׁה chămishshâh; a primitive numeral; five:—fif(-teen), fifth, five (× apiece).]
1). Though he wrote a thousand and 5 songs we only have two in the Bible (Psalm 72 & 127).
