 1 Thessalonians 1:9

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

1. “For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you…”

i. idols [Strong: 1497. eidolon i'-do-lon from 1491; an image (i.e. for worship); by implication, a heathen god, or (plural) the worship of such:--idol.]


j. [to] serve [Strong: 1398. douleuo dool-yoo'-o from 1401; to be a slave to (literal or figurative, involuntary or voluntary):--be in bondage, (do) serve(-ice).]

1). In the account in Acts it says that those who believed were a great number of God-fearers, Greeks who proselytes to Judaism and also a number of highly influential women. Though it does not say it in the Acts text but in this text it does, that a number of idol worshippers also got saved.


a). Acts 17:2-4 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

17:3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

17:4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
