Luke 13:13

And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

a. NLT: Then he touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised God!

b. NIV: Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

c. YLT: and he laid on her his hands, and presently she was set upright, and was glorifying God.

d. Amplified Bible: Then He laid [His] hands on her, and instantly she was made straight, and she recognized and thanked and praised God.

e. Worrell Translation: And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and was glorifying God.

1. “And he laid his hands on her…”

a. and [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. he laid…on [2007 * epitithemi] [Strong: from 1909 and 5087; to impose (in a friendly or hostile sense):--add unto, lade, lay upon, put (up) on, set on (up), + surname, X wound.]

c. hands[5495 * cheir] [Strong: perhaps from the base of 5494 in the sense of its congener the base of 5490 (through the idea of hollowness for grasping); the hand (literally or figuratively (power); especially (by Hebraism) a means or instrument):--hand.]

d. her [846 * autos] Strong: from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]

1). The teaching of the laying on of hands is one of the foundational doctrines of Christ.

a). Hebrews 6:1, 2 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

2). Placing hands on persons, things for vows, consecration, and prayer are all through the Old Testament.

a). Genesis 24:9  And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.

b). Exodus 29:10 And thou shalt cause a bullock to be brought before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the bullock.

c). Numbers 27:18-23 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
27:19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
27:20 And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.
27:21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.
27:22 And Moses did as the Lord commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:
27:23 And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the Lordcommanded by the hand of Moses.

c. she was made straight [461 * anorthoo] [Strong: from 303 and a derivative of the base of 3717; to straighten up:--lift (set) up, make straight.]

e. glorified [1392 * doxazo] Strong: from 1391; to render (or esteem) glorious (in a wide application):--(make) glorify(-ious), full of (have) glory, honour, magnify.]

f. God [2316 * theos] [Strong: of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with 3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]
