Luke 6:45

Luke 6:45
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

1. “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good…”

a. good [18 * agathos] [Strong: a primary word; "good" (in any sense, often as noun):--benefit, good(-s, things), well.]

b. man [444 * Anthropos] [Strong: man-faced, i.e. a human being:--certain, man.]

c. out of [1537 * ek] [Strong: a primary preposition denoting origin (the point whence action or motion proceeds), from, out (of place, time, or cause; literal or figurative; direct or remote):--after, among, X are, at, betwixt(-yond), by (the means of), exceedingly, (+ abundantly above), for(- th), from (among, forth, up), + grudgingly, + heartily, X heavenly, X hereby, + very highly, in, ...ly, (because, by reason) of, off (from), on, out among (from, of), over, since, X thenceforth, through, X unto, X vehemently, with(-out). Often used in composition, with the same general import; often of completion.]

d. good [18 * agathos] [Strong: a primary word; "good" (in any sense, often as noun):--benefit, good(-s, things), well.]

e. treasure [2344 * thesaurus] [Strong: a deposit, i.e. wealth (literally or figuratively):--treasure.] [Zodhiates: treasure, riches, anything laid up in store, wealth. Metaphorically, of spiritual treasures pertaining to the mind or eternal life. Treasury, place where treasures or stores are kept, storehouse. Metaphorically, the strore house of the mind where the thoughts, feeling or counsels are laid up.]

1). This treasure consists of things we have deposited in our hearts because Jesus said that is where these good things come out from. Some teach that the heart is the spirit of man, Romans 2:29, 1 Corinthians 14:14. While other teach that the spirit and the soul/mind together comprise the “heart”. Many times in Proverbs it gives the definite impression that the soul/mind and spirit comprise the “heart”. The important thing to remember is we deposit things there and we bring them out. Here Jesus said these were good things brought out of a good heart. The following are examples of good things out of a good heart.

a). Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

b). Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
1:2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

f. of his [846 * autos] [Strong:  from the particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]

h. bringeth forth [4393 * prophero] [Strong: from 4253 and 5342; to bear forward, i.e. produce:--bring forth.]

i. good [18 * agathos] [Strong: a primary word; "good" (in any sense, often as noun):--benefit, good(-s, things), well.]

2. “…and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil…”

a. and [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. an evil [4190 * poneros] [Strong: hurtful, i.e. evil (properly, in effect or influence, and thus differing from 2556, which refers rather to essential character, as well as from 4550, which indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively, calamitous; also (passively) ill, i.e. diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, i.e. derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners:--bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked(-ness).]

3. “…for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”

a. for [1063 * gar] [Strong: a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

g. speaketh [2980 * laleo] [Strong: a prolonged form of an otherwise obsolete verb; to talk, i.e. utter words:--preach, say, speak (after), talk, tell, utter.]

1). What we allow to come out of our mouth is a good indicator of what is inside our heart.
a). WOC 9/12/11 You can locate your faith by your own words. Your words are your faith speaking. Now, it’s good practice to consciously speak good words over your circumstances. But if you want to find out where you really are in your faith walk—or why some things aren’t going right in your life—then listen to yourself talk when the pressure is on. See what comes out of your mouth when you’re not making a conscious effort to speak something good. In other words, see what comes out of the abundance of your heart. Then you’ll know if you need to make some adjustments. It’s like a bank account. The bank sends you a statement each month. If you want them to add more to the final balance, what do you do? Put more money in the bank, and the next statement will show the difference. It’s the same way spiritually. When you want something to show up outside, deposit the treasures of God’s Word inside. Feed on the Word continually. Treat your inner man like a bank vault and just keep depositing God’s Word in there. Once the Word is deposited in your inner man, you’ll believe it; once you believe it, you’ll say it. And then your entire being will reflect the treasure of God’s Word.
