Acts 13:21

And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.

a. NLT: Then the people begged for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who reigned for forty years.

b. NIV: Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years.

c. YLT: and thereafter they asked for a king, and God did give to them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years;

1. “And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis…”

a. And afterward [Strong: 2547 * kakeithen kak-i'-then from 2532 and 1564; likewise from that place (or time):--and afterward (from) (thence), thence also.]

b. they desired [Strong: 154 * aiteo ahee-teh'-o of uncertain derivation; to ask (in genitive case):--ask, beg, call for, crave, desire, require.]

c. a king [Strong: 935 * basileus bas-il-yooce' probably from 939 (through the notion of a foundation of power); a sovereign (abstractly, relatively, or figuratively):--king.]

h. Saul [Strong: 4549 * Saoul sah-ool' of Hebrew origin (7586); Saul (i.e. Shaul), the Jewish name of Paul:--Saul.]

i. the son [Strong: 5207 * huios hwee-os' apparently a primary word; a "son" (sometimes of animals), used very widely of immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship:--child, foal, son.]

j. so Cis [Strong: 2797 * Kis kis of Hebrew origin (7027); Cis (i.e. Kish), an Israelite:--Cis.]

2. “…a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.”
