Acts 13:32



Acts 13:32

And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,

a. NLT: “And now we are here to bring you this Good News. The promise was made to our ancestors,

b. NIV: And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,

c. YLT: 'And we to you do proclaim good news -- that the promise made unto the fathers,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: So now we are bringing you the good news (Gospel) that what God promised to our forefathers,

1. “And we declare unto you glad tidings…”

a. And [Strong: 2532 * kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. we [Strong: 2249 * hemeis hay-mice' nominative plural of 1473; we (only used when emphatic):--us, we (ourselves).]

c. declare…glad tidings [Strong: 2097 * euaggelizo yoo-ang-ghel-id'-zo from 2095 and 32; to announce good news ("evangelize") especially the gospel:--declare, bring (declare, show) glad (good) tidings, preach (the gospel).]

d. unto you [Strong: 5209 * humas hoo-mas' accusative case of 5210; you (as the objective of a verb or preposition):--ye, you (+ -ward), your (+ own).]

2. “…how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,”

a. how that [Strong: 3754 * hoti hot'-ee neuter of 3748 as conjunction; demonstrative, that (sometimes redundant); causative, because:--as concerning that, as though, because (that), for (that), how (that), (in) that, though, why.]

b. the promise [Strong: 1860 * epaggelia ep-ang-el-ee'-ah from 1861; an announcement (for information, assent or pledge; especially a divine assurance of good):--message, promise.]

c. which was made [Strong: 1096 * ginomai ghin'-om-ahee a prolongation and middle voice form of a primary verb; to cause to be ("gen"-erate), i.e. (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literal, figurative, intensive, etc.):--arise, be assembled, be(-come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, X soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought.]

d. unto [Strong: 4314 * pros pros a strengthened form of 4253; a preposition of direction; forward to, i.e. toward (with the genitive case, the side of, i.e. pertaining to; with the dative case, by the side of, i.e. near to; usually with the accusative case, the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, i.e. whither or for which it is predicated):--about, according to , against, among, at, because of, before, between, (where-)by, for, X at thy house, in, for intent, nigh unto, of, which pertain to, that, to (the end that), X together, to (you) -ward, unto, with(-in). In the comparative case, it denotes essentially the same applications, namely, motion towards, accession to, or nearness at.

e. the fathers [Strong: 3962 * pater pat-ayr' apparently a primary word; a "father" (literally or figuratively, near or more remote):--father, parent.]

1). Paul details one promise of the David writing of the coming of the Messiah and of raising Him from the dead.

a). Acts 13:33-37  God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
13:34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
13:35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
13:36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
13:37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
