Exodus 25:14

And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them.

a. NLT:  Insert the poles into the rings at the sides of the Ark to carry it.

1. “And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark…”

a. e. the sides [Strong: 6763 * tsela` tsay-law' or (feminine) tsalTah {tsal-aw'}; from 6760; a rib (as curved), literally (of the body) or figuratively (of a door, i.e. leaf); hence, a side, literally (of a person) or figuratively (of an object or the sky, i.e. quarter); architecturally, a (especially floor or ceiling) timber or plank (single or collective, i.e. a flooring):--beam, board, chamber, corner, leaf, plank, rib, side (chamber).]

f. of the ark [Strong: 727 * 'arown aw-rone' or laron {aw-rone'}; from 717 (in the sense of gathering); a box:--ark, chest, coffin.]

2. “…that the ark may be borne with them.”

1). The Ark was only to be carried or “borne” by four individuals. This was clearly commanded in the book of Numbers, and only a certain family of Levites were to carry the furniture of the tabernacle, which included the Ark of the Covenant. This was the purpose of the golden rings in the corners of the Ark and the staves of wood coverd with gold.

a). Numbers 3:27-32 And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izeharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these are the families of the Kohathites.
3:28 In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary.
3:29 The families of the sons of Kohath shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle southward.
3:30 And the chief of the house of the father of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.
3:31 And their charge shall be the ark, and the table, and the candlestick, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary wherewith they minister, and the hanging, and all the service thereof.
3:32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.
