Exodus 37:5



Exodus 37:5

And he put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, to bear the ark.

a. NLT: He inserted the poles into the rings at the sides of the Ark to carry it.

b. NIV: And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it.

c. YLT: and he bringeth in the staves into the rings, by the sides of the ark, to bear the ark.

d. Amplified Bible Classic: He put the poles through the rings at the sides of the ark to carry it.

e. Septuagint: [Exodus 37:5 in our Bibles is Exodus 38:5 in the Septuagint]: And he made the propitiatory over the ark of pure gold,

1). The text of the Septuagint is different from our Bibles, and even the Jewish texts and I’m clueless as to why.

c. into the rings [Strong: 2885 * tabba`ath tab-bah'-ath from 2883; properly, a seal (as sunk into the wax), i.e. signet (for sealing); hence (generally) a ring of any kind:--ring.]

d. by [Strong: 5921 * `al al properly, the same as 5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications (as follow):--above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, X as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, X both and, by (reason of), X had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-)on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, X with.]

e. the sides [Strong: 6763 * tsela` tsay-law' or (feminine) tsalTah {tsal-aw'}; from 6760; a rib (as curved), literally (of the body) or figuratively (of a door, i.e. leaf); hence, a side, literally (of a person) or figuratively (of an object or the sky, i.e. quarter); architecturally, a (especially floor or ceiling) timber or plank (single or collective, i.e. a flooring):--beam, board, chamber, corner, leaf, plank, rib, side (chamber).]

f. of the ark [Strong: 727 * 'arown aw-rone' or laron {aw-rone'}; from 717 (in the sense of gathering); a box:--ark, chest, coffin.]

g. to carry [Strong: 5375 * nasa' naw-saw' or nacah (Psalm 4 : 6 (7)) {naw-saw'}; a primitive root; to lift, in a great variety of applications, literal and figurative, absol. and rel. 1). It was never intended for the ark to be transported any other way than by carrying, and in particular by a specific family of Levites.

a). Numbers 3:27-32 And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izeharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these are the families of the Kohathites.
3:28 In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary.
3:29 The families of the sons of Kohath shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle southward.
3:30 And the chief of the house of the father of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.
3:31 And their charge shall be the ark, and the table, and the candlestick, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary wherewith they minister, and the hanging, and all the service thereof.
3:32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.
