In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

1). Solomon had gone up Gibeon and had offered a thousand burnt offerings to the LORD. 

a). 1 Kings 3:4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

b). 2 Chronicles 1:5-7 Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the Lord: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.

1:6 And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the Lord, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.

1:7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
