1 Peter 3:22
Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made
subject unto him.
a. NLT: Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of
honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his
authority.
b. NIV: who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with
angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
c. YLT: who is at the right hand of God, having gone on to heaven --
messengers, and authorities, and powers, having been subjected to him.
d. Amplified Bible Classic: [And He] has now entered into heaven and is
at the right hand of God, with [all] angels and authorities and powers made
subservient to Him.
e. Worrell Translation: Who is on the right hand of God, having gone
into Heaven, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
1. “Who is gone into heaven…”
a. who [3739 * hos, including feminine he, and neuter ho]
[Strong: probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article 3588); the
relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one,
(an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc.]
b. is gone [4198 * poreuomai] [Strong: middle voice from a derivative
of the same as 3984; to traverse, i.e. travel (literally or figuratively;
especially to remove (figuratively, die), live, etc.); --depart, go (away,
forth, one's way, up), (make a, take a) journey, walk.]
c. into [1519 * eis] [Strong: a primary preposition; to or into
(indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively)
purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against,
among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more
exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much
that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish,
+ set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the
end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), ...ward, (where-)fore, with. Often used in
composition with the same general import, but only with verbs (etc.) expressing
motion (literally or figuratively).]
d. heaven [3772 * ouranos] [Strong: perhaps from the same as 3735
(through the idea of elevation); the sky; by extension, heaven (as the abode of
God); by implication, happiness, power, eternity; specially, the Gospel
(Christianity):--air, heaven(-ly), sky.]
2. “…and is on the right hand of
God…”
a. and is [2076 * esti] [Strong: third person singular present
indicative of 1510; he (she or it) is; also (with neuter plural) they
are:--are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth, X dure for a while,
+ follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must needs, + profit, +
remaineth, + wrestle.]
b. on [1722 * en] [Strong: a primary preposition denoting (fixed)
position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality
(medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between
1519 and 1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against,
+ almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all
means), for (... sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X
mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X
shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward),
under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with
substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to
indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different)
preposition.]
c. the right hand [1188 * dexios] [Strong: from 1209; the right side or
(feminine) hand (as that which usually takes):--right (hand, side).]
d. of God [2316 * theos] [Strong: of uncertain affinity; a deity,
especially (with 3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by
Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]
1). The most quoted and alluded to Old Testament verse in the New
Testament is Psalm 110:1. This scripture is quoted or alluded to 16 times in
the New Testament, which makes Psalm 110:1 the most quoted Old Testament verse
in the New Testament.
a). Matthew 22:44; 26:64; Mark
16:19; Luke 20:42, 43; Acts 2:33-36; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:25;
Ephesians 1:20; 2:6; Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 1:3; 1:13; 8:1; 10:12, 13; 12:2.
b). Psalm 110:1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand,
until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
2). The reason Psalm 110:1 is the most quoted Old Testament verse in
the New Testament is because the sitting down of Christ at the right hand of
God after the resurrection is the beginning of the implementation or the
establishment of the New Covenant.
3. “…angels and authorities and powers being made
subject unto him.”
a. angels [32 * aggelos] [Strong: from aggello (probably derived
from 71; compare 34) (to bring tidings); a messenger; especially an
"angel"; by implication, a pastor:--angel, messenger.]
b. and [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a
copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then,
too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or
small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then,
therefore, when, yet.]
c. authorities [1849 * exousia] [Strong: from 1832 (in the sense of
ability); privilege, i.e. (subjectively) force, capacity, competency, freedom,
or (objectively) mastery (concretely, magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token
of control), delegated influence:--authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power,
right, strength.]
d. and [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a
copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then,
too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or
small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then,
therefore, when, yet.]
e. powers 1411 * dunamis] [Strong: from 1410; force (literally or
figuratively); specially, miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle
itself):--ability, abundance, meaning, might(-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of)
miracle(-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work.]
f. being made subject [5293 * hupotasso] [Strong: from 5259 and 5021;
to subordinate; reflexively, to obey:--be under obedience (obedient), put
under, subdue unto, (be, make) subject (to, unto), be (put) in subjection (to,
under), submit self unto.]
g. unto him [846 * autos] [Strong: from the particle au (perhaps akin
to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the
reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative 1438) of the third
person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her,
it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-,
thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, -
by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those,
together, very, which.]
1). All power and authority was given to Christ Jesus after his
resurrection
a). Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power
is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
2). The book of Ephesians goes deeper into what happened after the
death and resurrection of Christ. When Christ was raised we were raised with
him and seated in him. We were also given authority over all principality and
power. All means all, good and bad.
a). Ephesians 1:15-23 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in
the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my
prayers;
1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may
give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know
what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his
inheritance in the saints,
1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who
believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and
set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion,
and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is
to come:
1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the
head over all things to the church,
1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
