Acts 3:21

 

Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

1. “Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things…”

 

a. whom [Strong: 3739. hos hos, including feminine he hay, and neuter ho ho probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc.]


b. [the] heaven [Strong: 3772. ouranos oo-ran-os' perhaps from the same as 3735 (through the idea of elevation); the sky; by extension, heaven (as the abode of God); by implication, happiness, power, eternity; specially, the Gospel (Christianity):--air, heaven(-ly), sky.]

 

c. [Strong: 3303. men men a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with 1161 (this one, the former, etc.):--even, indeed, so, some, truly, verily. 1). The space of time includes from the ascension to the return of Christ. 

 

2. “…which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.”

e. h. holy [Strong: 40. hagios hag'-ee-os from hagos (an awful thing) (compare 53, 2282); sacred (physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated):--(most) holy (one, thing), saint.]

 

i. prophets [Strong: 4396. prophetes prof-ay'-tace from a compound of 4253 and 5346; a foreteller ("prophet"); by analogy, an inspired speaker; by extension, a poet:--prophet.]

 

j. since [Strong: 575. apo apo' a primary particle; "off," i.e. away (from something near), in various senses (of place, time, or relation; literal or figurative):--(X here-)after, ago, at, because of, before, by (the space of), for(-th), from, in, (out) of, off, (up-)on(-ce), since, with. In composition (as a prefix) it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.]

 

k. the world began [Strong: 165. aion ahee-ohn' from the same as 104; properly, an age; by extension, perpetuity (also past); by implication, the world; specially (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or future):--age, course, eternal, (for) ever(-more), (n-)ever, (beginning of the , while the) world (began, without end).]

 

1). Kenneth E. Hagin, The Coming Restoration: In the 19th verse he said, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when THE TIMES OF REFRESHING shall come from the presence of the Lord.” The American Standard Version gives a better translation: “Repent ye therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord.” You’ll find that the Greek word translated “restitution” in verse 21 also can be translated “restoration” and it reads that way in many translations. Notice that Peter connected times of refreshing (we often call them “revivals”) with the Second Coming of Christ. Thus, Peter taught us that times of refreshing would come from the presence of the Lord in the time opf the Lord’s return! So there are two things to notice: (1) times of refreshments, and (2) times of restoration. This passage from Acts teaches us that just before the Lord’s Second Coming, we will experience both. Some will ask what i mean by “restoration.” I mean restoration of the power of Christ, restoration of the authority of Christ, and restoration of the character of Christ. God wants all three of these characteristics to be exhibited in the life of the Church and in the lives of individual Christians.



2). Surely one of the greatest acts of restoration that God has done in the end of the age is the restoration of Israel as a nation, accomplished in 1948

 

a). Ezekiel 37:1-12  The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of theLord, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,

37:2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

37:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest.

37:4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

37:5 Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

37:6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

37:7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

37:8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

37:9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

37:11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

37:12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

 

3). Many of the things written in the prophets could not have been fulfilled unless Israel was in their own land, but now that that has happened other things will begin to happen as well.
