By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1. “By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.”


a. By [Strong: 1223. dia dee-ah' a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act; through (in very wide applications, local, causal, or occasional):--after, always, among, at, to avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) ... fore, from, in, by occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though, through(-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same general importance.]


b. which [Strong: 3739. hos hos, including feminine he hay, and neuter ho ho probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc.]


c. also [Strong: 2532. kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.


d. [ye are] saved [Strong: 4982. sozo sode'-zo from a primary sos (contraction for obsolete saos, "safe"); to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literally or figuratively):--heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole.] [Zodhiates: to save, deliver, make whole, preserve safe from danger, loss, destruction…Sozo occurs fifty-four times in the Gospels [fifty-six in the KJV]. Of the instances where sozo is used, fourteen relate to deliverance from disease or demon possession; in twenty instances, the inference is to the rescue of physical life from some impending peril or instant death; the remaining twenty times, the reference is to spiritual salvation.]

f. keep [in memory] [Strong: 2722. katecho kat-ekh'-o from 2596 and 2192; to hold down (fast), in various applications (literally or figuratively):--have, hold (fast), keep (in memory), let, X make toward, possess, retain, seize on, stay, take, withhold.]


g. what [Strong: 5100. tis tis an enclitic indefinite pronoun; some or any person or object:--a (kind of), any (man, thing, thing at all), certain (thing), divers, he (every) man, one (X thing), ought, + partly, some (man, -body, - thing, -what), (+ that no-)thing, what(-soever), X wherewith, whom(-soever), whose(-soever).]

o. [in] vain [Strong: 1500. eike i-kay' probably from 1502 (through the idea of failure); idly, i.e. without reason (or effect):--without a cause, (in) vain(-ly).]


1). Perry Stone Hebraic Prophetic Study Bible: Here Paul writes a review of the resurrection of Christ and the eyewitnesses. First, Christ died (Luke 23:46), but arose on the third day (See Acts 10:40). Cephas (Simon Peter; see Luke 24:34) saw him, followed by the eleven. The 500 brethren at once (v. 6) may refer to those gathered on the Mount of Olives when Christ ascended to heaven (Acts 1:8, 9). James seeing Jesus (v. 7) is not reported in Scripture. Paul saw Christ in a vision on the road to Damascus (see Acts 26:13-19). Paul feels unworthy lto be listed with the other Apostles since he persecuted the church before his conversion (v9).
