Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

1. “Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?”


a. Else [Strong: 1893 epeí, ep-i'; from G1909 and G1487; thereupon, i.e. since (of time or cause):—because, else, for that (then, -asmuch as), otherwise, seeing that, since, when.


b. what [Strong: 5101. tis tis probably emphatic of 5100; an interrogative pronoun, who, which or what (in direct or indirect questions):--every man, how (much), + no(-ne, thing), what (manner, thing), where (-by, -fore, -of, -unto, - with, -withal), whether, which, who(-m, -se), why.]
